I've been burning a couple of DC backup for a while, i first copy it to the HD and then to the a blank Media. It's a 24x, but when i burn at 24x, it takes around 9-10 min to finish a 700mb, is that normal? I heard it should take 5 Min? My hard drive is pretty fast, but it's kind of filled up, only about 1 gig left. When i burn at 16x, it also takes 9-11 min to finish. Anybody know how i can make it burn faster? I'm using Nero, when using CDclone, it takes even longer.

To *directly* answer your question – yes, this I have the same problem with a 24x burner. Any yes, I copy to h/drive first and my h/drive is effing quick..
While my drive is not so full, I have it partitioned and defrag regularly, so if you're defraggingly remiss, defragging may help. I have a separate partition solely dedicated to *.wav and *.mp3 files and directories..
With Nero, I’m getting slightly better results than you, but certainly not as expected, but I find Clone about the same, not worse.
Fortunately for me, I burn about once, maybe twice a week, so I don’t find 5 minutes too much of a burden… :)
You could possibly try running a prog called CDSpeed over your drive and possibly optimise settings with DriveSpeed and see where your DMA’s at etc.. Both should be a part of your latest Nero package...
Have you actually got the latest version of Nero, and is there any new firmware for your burner? Remember that drives rarely burn at full ‘advertised’ speed, although there’s anecdotal evidence that you could be doing a bit better than this…
Have you tried other burnware? Give something like Feurio a go and see if there’s a difference… In my case there is not. In fact, I’ve done all of above and a bit more, as well as quite a lot of reading and surfing the issue – all to no avail…. I don’t lose sleep over it though, coz hey, it’s a coupla minutes and the burns are coming out excellently…
But what the hoop, if you come up with anything, I’d be interested to know…
