I heard that the dvdxcopy software was just released, can anyone link me to a place where i can download the shareware. I know i can do the same w/ ifo edit and stuff, but i would just like to be able to put in a movie and a blank and press a button without having to do anything in between, itll save me alot of time, even if the disk has to be on 2 blanks i have a 5 disk dvd changer so it doesnt matter to me. Thanks for any info or links.

Well if they had released it then it would be available on their page.

The Pre-Orders will be released tonight, we anticipate early evening CT. All customers will receive an email with download instructions. Expect this around 5-7pm Central Time on Nov 8, 2002.

Doesn't look like they released it though.. The thing keeps getting pushed back and back, I mean they haven't even been beta testing it for that long.

Way too much hype and not enough action.

Personally I don't know if I buy into the hype. I don't know if I believe them flat out due to a lie in there FAQ.

Q. Will my copy retain the same quality that is on my DVD?

A. Every copy made with DVD X COPY software is EXACTLY like the original. There is no video or audio compression. DVD X COPY is the first program to copy ANY DVD movie without any loss in quality.

Anyone that knows ANYTHING about DVD burning knows that this statement is complete BS. How the hell can you get 7 gigs into 4 without re-encoding the video using a lower compression bitrate then was originally there.

But beyond all that the real question is how long will the damn thing take. I might even call them later to talk to them and find out more. I am willing to plunk down $99 to give it a try if I am satisfied with there answers.

Taken from the FAQ.

Q. How many discs are required to burn one DVD?

A. Many DVD movies will fit onto one DVD disk, but on occasion, you will need/want to split the DVD onto two DVD+R disks.

Q. How long does it take to copy a DVD with DVD X COPY?

A. Some newer model computers can copy a DVD movie in one hour or less. Older computers may take a little longer, depending on the speed of their processor and DVD burner.

Worth the money if it really does what they say.

Done more reading on there forums. Apparently it will burn the DVD's over 2 disks which is how it gets away with out the recompression. If I wanted a movie split over 2 DVD's I would use IFOEDIT for free. Also they apparently put there own disclaimers/FBI warning onto the disk. Thats just flat out annoying.

Edit: Guess I was slow on hitting the send button :-).

Yep, there is nothing new or exciting there. You can get that ease of copying over 2 discs free with IFOEdit, or 1 click method with Derrows DVD Split for 15 bucks. As for DVD5's DVD Decrypter 's ISO method is also free.

Yeah, its just a one click solution, but they forgot that you have to put in a blank disk sometime too, eh? Saw it in the newsgroups today... No, I won't say which one as the has board rules see?

could you tell me a little bit more about Derrows DVD Split and is there a shareware for it so i can check it out first?

http://ifoedit.wh.fr0zen.com/dvdsplit.html

There is no shareware version, infact there isn't any version yet. IFOEdit is still avaialbe though and still free.

It is an easy one button copy program if you are using a 9gig double sided dvdright?

Okay, I tried it yesterday with a Sony DRU500a on ATTACK OF THE CLONES. That dvd is about 240 minutes long. It knows this & lets you know the nbr of disks that it needs.

Started the program with the disk in & it looked at it & then a tutorial opens & it says to select the biggest file (but you can select all of them if you want). I did that then it decoded it in a half hour on a 2.4ghz. At that point it gave me a message that it wants to write that disk now (but you can skip that disk if you want). So I selected to write it on a dvd+rw. When it was done, put it in my apex 1500.

The main dvd menu came up after the short film. Also, it inserted its own FBI message that says its a dvd backup. I selected english subs but then the dvd just played in a sort of loop. So I went into the chapter menu & selected the first chapter & it played just fine with english subs & looked just like the original. I only had one dvd rw so I didn't make the second disk.

So it does work. & works with the Sony. cool.

Can u skip the FBI warning or do you have to let it play?

handyguy
Nov 13, 2002, 05:24 PM
THE FBI thing is written to the disk. In other words, when you play it, it has the regular warning & then a new one they wrote saying this is a backup disk, nearly fainted when I saw that....

The issue I had was I forgot to install the drivers for it the first time so no drive shows up in their box, so I just had to install the drivers, which is just a little program you run.

I also have FORCE ASPI on as XP doesn't come with aspi, so I dont know if that makes things work better, but its a point worth mentioning.
dvdxcopy.com has a forum that discusses this drive in some messages too.

Nov 14, 2002, 09:30 AM
I know it burns it automatically. What I mean is can u hit the next chapter button to skip it when it comes up. Some comapnies give you that option, and others don't.

handyguy
Nov 14, 2002, 11:50 AM
rishardc, I don't know what you are referring to. All it does is make a perfect duplicate of the original disk & if it requires more than one disk, you can skip a disk. It writes all chapters as far as I know.

celtic_druid
Nov 14, 2002, 07:11 PM
What he means is can you skip the warning that it inserts or do you have to watch it?

i downloaded dvdxcopy yesterday but everytime and it looks like a very good programme, especially for discs with episodes eg The Office. Since this has 6 episode it lets you put 3 on each disc.

however as soon as it tries to rip from the dvd i get a message saying cannot read from the source disc. It says this with Pulp fiction and the Rush hour 2 disc also.

It's working fine now ! Looks like a great program ! Will post back when its completed.

The problem was that my dvd drive was set to region 1 !! Didnt think to check that !!

:(
I think the copy protection they put on the discs is causing the discs it creates not to play on 2 out of 3 of my players
What I mean is that they may be making the discs outside the DVD
standard as far as players and burning software are concerned.

I tried backing up one of my movie discs, the first (representing first half) created disc played fine in my Apex, but not in my other two home DVD players (similar to the issue with Nero, but for an entirely different reason, I think).

I decided to try again (I wanted to use RecordNow Max to burn, since I know it creates discs that all 3 of my DVD players can play):

1) So this time when it got to the ready-to-burn stage, I copied the DVDXCopy temp folder's VIDEO_TS (containig the VOBs etc.) and AUDIO_TS (blank of course) folders somewhere else (so they wouldn't get automatically deleted when closing the program) and shut down DVDXCopy.

2) Unfortunately when I went to burn it in Stomp, it gave me an error about the format of the VIDEO_TS contents (i.e. it didn't meet the DVD Video) specification. I could burn it with the 'Recognize VIDEO_ts AND AUDIO_TS' option turned off I guess, but then I think only the Apex will play it (since I don't think it is the burn engine of DVDXCopy that is the provlem, but rather the contents of the VOBs)...

Or should I have also copied the text file that DVDXCopy creates????

Any ideas?

Thank you!

I put sw clones on a dvd+rw & then used nero to copy it to a dvd-r cheapo disk. You can only do that with a Sony. dvd-r played fine on the ps2. both play fine on my apex.

There might be some info about their message affecting play back. but to play my clones copy I had to start it from the chapters MENU only.

Derrow has joined 321studios to work on their KISS DVD-9 -> 2x DVD-5 software called DVDXCopy. Apparently there are quite a lot of problems to be solved yet and the product isn't working as some people would like you to believe. (from doom9.org)

Derrow: I've already removed a few bugs, so now it gets much more usable, but there's still a lot to do.
But when I've done all the fixes, it will be a kick-*** tool.

After fixing all problems, I'm also planing to implement new features into DVDXCopy.
If somebody has any special suggestions, lets hear them.

So it looks like it is going to turn out a decent program afterall.

This product isnt shareware, its $99.00 & a new version just came out.

People need to stop asking me for it, its already posted in the newsgroups & I wont say which one as the board has rules..... thanks.

I have burned the main movie from Rush Hour 2 and the first 3 episodes of The Office. However, all i get is the 'This is a backup copy' warning at the start of the disc and that's it. It doesnt go on from there ? All the files are on the disc and if i manually drop them into power dvd it works fine. Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

If it stops at the backup warning screen, press the menu button on your DVD remote control and it will continue to load.

With Derrow working on the project you can be assured that they will eventially have a great working product. If purchasing it includes free updates then I would not be too concerned.... Although it ain't my $100 that you would be spending so I guess I'll just shut up.

so its not the
"One click dvd9 to dvd5 exact duplicate Multi-angle Seamless Branching with all the menus & special features etc etc on one 4.7Gb dvd-recordable with sugar on top" program we were all dreaming about?? damn , I know I was counting on it's release..........NOT!

tis true that if derrow is helping out the resulting program will more than likely be worth $100 if not less ;), though when do I pay my hundred bucks?
Never!! well at least not while there is shareware that does the same or until it does become a "one click wonder" as I was dreaming.... I mean mentioning about before ....heh

(said in a football match kind of chant)....Go Go Der-row!

Nov 19, 2002, 11:47 AM
So dvdxcopy isnt a one click wonder? then whats so special about it?? and why would you pay 100 bucks for something that takes just as much time as something thats free?

handyguy
Nov 19, 2002, 12:05 PM
Cuz ts easier.

Comes with free updates.

You can get a refund if you want.

They are being sued at the moment, if they lose they said they would give out a serial number that activates it for everyone.

BbAaSsSs
Nov 19, 2002, 01:14 PM
Sweet sound like a cool product what are they being sued for?

celtic_druid
Nov 19, 2002, 09:41 PM
Nah, they are the ones doing the suing. They sued the Hollywood studios, etc. in a premptive strick. They are asking for the right to sell their product despite the DMCA.

I guess even if they lost they could still sell their product, just not in or from the US.

BbAaSsSs
Nov 19, 2002, 11:30 PM
sweet so is dvdxcopy as good as it looks? whos all tried it??

Bullet
Nov 20, 2002, 04:22 AM
I tried it from day one. Buggy as hell.
It has a problem with splitting the chapters.

Chapters are in the wrong order, sometimes they're missing or start and stop in the middle, and the copies like to freeze-up alot.

It will drive you're DVD player crazy searching for everything.
