gingertips Nov 11, 2002, 05:48 AM I bought 100 DVD-r disks about a year ago, but have no end of problems using them for PS/2 backup copies - most recently, Colin Mcrae 3 freezes at Stage 4 of the Australian. On another copy I did it freezes at the Press Start screen.
So I guess that from what Ive read here, poor media can cause game freezes?
Ok, so Im going to take advice and buy Verbatim or other top media - where is best place in UK to buy the media?
Thx!
xxxStealthxxx Nov 11, 2002, 06:37 AM ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's not from the poor media at all, if you recorded for ages like me you should know (all cd media works the same for those who say it don't are still learning) !
It is due to you're settings in you're burning program or you need to use a different burning program !!!!

cut the guy some slack mate
anyway dude, yeh always best to buy the best media u can afford, it will save u time and hassle in the long run
u can buy them from www.121cdr.co.uk , bigpockets.co.uk , digitalpromo.co.uk
best bet is to compare prices between them all and see which one giv u the best deal, id suggest going for traxdata purple top or if money isnt an issue then defo go for the verbs
also what software are u using to backup the games mate? use primo and u wont have any trouble.
other reasons could be that your laser is just warn out (or getting there), u might wanna check the games in other ps2 just in case ;)
hope this helps
Cal_G_UK Nov 11, 2002, 09:25 AM I agree fully with the above, just another couple of points. Traxdata are by far the best disks at the cheaper end of DVD-R media, they use Ritek Gen 3 dye, Datasafe Ritek, Lynx and DVD Master gen 4 also use this dye and are by far the best media you can get for under £1, there are also some very strong arguments currently going on that they are even better than Verbatim and Apple media, i thought that was total crap 2 weeks ago, but after burning over 100 at 2x speed since then i am starting to agree.
Every disk i have burned in the last 2 weeks has been perfect on every level, read back perfectly on all drives i have tried, excellent for PS2 games (my PS2 will not read Apple, only just about read Verbs, will read no other media at all but it will read back the Ritek gen 3 dye perfectly, even burned at 2x) xbox, movies, data, you name it these disks are great for it.
I know this sounds like i am trying to sell them, thats not what am trying to do. I have tried every brand of DVD-R i could ever get my hands on and for the price these disks are truly head and shoulders above the rest.
www.121cdr.co.uk are currently doing 10 datasafe ritek for £9.99 (not to be confused with datasafe/datawrite classic), get em while you can.
All media is not of equal quality at all so try to overlook the first reply, if that was true Bulqpak would work exactly the same as Verbatim, which anybody who has used both knows is not true at all.
Peace

gingertips Nov 12, 2002, 03:06 AM Ok thanks for your replies - I appreciate the responses. Im burning with Nero - just using straight DVD Copy at 1speed. This may or may not be best way to do it...
I bought the 100DVDrs last year from Svp - so will take your advice and buy from them as they were cheapest then! Will go for 10 of datasafe riteks 1st to see if they are ok.
Ill take your advice on Primo - and will do a quick search thru the FAQs on this site to check what settings to use - but i guess just accept the defaults...
Your suggestion on Laser is interesting - Ive had PS/2 for a year - ive rarely used it - but then, I bought a CD player a few years ago and the laser went in about a month! Would I see a problem with originals if there was a problem with the laser? (I mainly play GTA3, which seems to just read from the CD all the time!)
biggy7 Nov 12, 2002, 06:41 AM yep use primo defualt settings, copy image to hard drive and then burn to dvdr, simple.
as for the laser, im to sure mate, if originals work and rest of games work then i suppose its good.
try different media 1st, hope it works for ya! :)
gingertips Nov 12, 2002, 06:57 AM Thx Biggy7 - I got my media this morning from www.cdr.co.uk so will try it out tonight and post results here!
Uranus Nov 12, 2002, 10:12 AM If you're gonna buy in bulk then give wcw a try, http://www.wcwmedia.com
You can get 80 datasafe riteks there for £74.
Also 90 whitelabel 1x for £54.50, which is £17.50 cheaper than at digital promo. These are also a very good disc on most peoples ps2's.
I know i sound like a salesman, but i aint..just passing on the bargains.:wavey:
gingertips Nov 13, 2002, 04:44 AM Guys,
Pleased to announce that I burnt 4 games using Nero all with Traxdata media - burnt fine each time and games work flawlessly. I also reburnt 2 games again using the unbranded i bought last year and both froze in game.
So I guess the moral of story for me is - dont buy cheapest media - but Im sure thats not the same for everyone.
Take the advice thats sprawled across this forum and check which media works best for you - for me it seems to be Traxdata!
Thanks for all your advice guys - much appreciated!
