Last week, when I turned my PC on I couldn't get into Windows. This might have occured due to a virus accidently downloaded from Kazaa.

From there I have formatted my HD twice and re-installed Windows ME twice. When on the last stage of installing ME, various error messages appear at different times.

I'm not sure why this is happening, or possibly why the virus is still present if I formatted my HD. Can someone please give me advice on how I can get rid of all these errors, so I can install ME and start from fresh?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you getting radom errors when installing the O/S eg can't copy across a certain file.Also where you getting any problem before the machine went down?

If the errors are blue screens ('of death') with something like 'cannot find this.dll', it may be that your memory (i.e. RAM) is bad.

If you've got a windows 98 try putting that on your computer,If it works ok put the windows millenium disk in while 98 is running and then hopefully it will say do you want to upgrade to millenium then say yes then it will say save system files type yes and hopefully it will work for you.

If you're installing from the CD you could try copying it to the HD first if all the files copy fine it's not a prob with the cd. Sounds like it could be a prob. with RAM as 49er said. HTH

if the error persists after formatting this indicates hardware failure try a different stick of ram

get a new boot disk from someone that has me on there pc with a new floppy diskif there pc hassnt got any virus on it then use that disk
do a fdisk first
then
type in at the dos promt
format.com c:/u

that will do a clean format
then just format it like normal
format.com c:/s
get youre friend to download macafee antivirus software it fits on a floppy
run that befor you put windows on youre pc
