capitanpa Nov 16, 2002, 05:54 PM Hi:
I have an NTSC XBOX and I am able to play both NTSC and PAL games on my machine. My question is, are there any differences in a PAL release of a game compared to the same game but in NTSC? Like the 2 FIFA 2003 Fulldvd releases, I already have the pal release, is there any reason for me to get the NTSC one?
Thanks
redwolf Nov 16, 2002, 08:49 PM You want to get FIFA 2003 on NTSC when you've already got the PAL version? Is this game really that GOOD compared to other FIFA football serious.
But to answer your question, is NO. If you have a mod-chip then get 'Enigmah Video Mode Selector' where you can convert the video mode of the xbox to PAL/NTSC. In quick term, PAL displayed graphic is sharper then NTSC, but NTSC's refresh rate is smoother than PAL.
capitanpa Nov 16, 2002, 09:36 PM yeah FIFa 2003 is better than previous fifas, but nowhere near as good as PES2.
So event though I can play PAL games on my NTSC xbox, if I get the video converter, the game will be smoother?
redwolf Nov 17, 2002, 12:35 AM I could be wrong... But, As far as i know unlike the PS2, the Xbox's games doesn't have PAL/NTSC setting. Only whatever the region the xbox is from it will run in that format. i.e. if the xbox is a PAL then whatever games you load, it will run in PAL format.
You should get the Video Mode Boot Disc and try it yourself to see which mode you prefer.
djlins Nov 18, 2002, 06:04 AM Would I be right in thinking if you have a game that boots up to a blank screen but with sound (like toe jam an earl does on mine) does this sound like a problem that could possibly be fixed by swapping from PAl to NTSC or am I on the wrong track here???
-- Additional ---
is there a set number of times you can change the PAL to NTSC and back again,, like with region changers??
or is it unlimited??
Punton2001 Nov 18, 2002, 07:47 AM djlins, my Timesplitters2 NTSC (on a PAL xBox) did the blank screen thing with sound. I used the 'Enigmah Video Mode Selector' to change my xBox to NTSC and now Timesplitters 2 works fine.
You can switch video modes as many times as you like.
maxwell_alan Nov 18, 2002, 08:22 AM I might be being dumb, but I'm not sure which chip my xbox is chipped with and I get the black screen with ToeJam and Earl although the sound comes thru.
How do I change from Pal to NTSC????? How come this happens with this game alone, I've around 50 games and I don't believe that out of those 50 this is the only title in NTSC!!!!
Hope someone can help!!!!
Punton2001 Nov 18, 2002, 08:32 AM It only seem happens with my Timesplitters 2, not sure if any of my other games are NTSC but there's a good chance that some of them are.
You need 'Enigmah Video Mode Selector' to change your video mode. You can get it here... (Hope this is allowed mods)

(I think this is the right one, I'm not at home so I cant test it)
maxwell_alan Nov 18, 2002, 08:42 AM Cheers, do I just boot up with this on a DVDr 1st????
Punton2001 Nov 18, 2002, 08:55 AM Yes, or you can FTP it to you xBox if your using EvoX. When it's loaded, you press one button to change to PAL and another button to change to NTSC. The new video mode is not applied until after you have restarted your xBox.
toofan Nov 18, 2002, 09:37 AM PAL System is slower then NTSC system. The pictur quality is slightly better though. Some of my games sound mess up in PAL mode. Ive had this problem with: Lord of the rings, Splashdown, Metal Gear solid2 s. You can test the PAL/NTSC speed difefrence by just using enigmah video mode selector. Try borwsing up & down menu in PAL mode, then switch to NTSC & ull see it moves much faster. I have PAL xbox myself, but I bought a scart cable to be able to run NTSC mode in color on my TV. And havent changed to PAL since :)
djlins Nov 18, 2002, 10:50 AM I use a scart cable to my TV already.. so shouldn't this mean that I shouldn't've hit the black screen but with sound, for toejam and earl problem??
Punton2001 Nov 18, 2002, 10:54 AM no, it's the output from the xbox that's the problem, not the input to your tv. My PAL tv plays ntsc stuff from my ps2 and movie dvds ok, but had the black screen problem with the xbox.
maxwell_alan Nov 19, 2002, 08:13 AM Thanks for the link to the Enigmah video selector, it worked a treat, 1st time I've been able to play Toejam & Earl. When 1st switched to NTSC the screen came on albeit in black and white. I needed to put my Scart into TV's port 1 which I believe is the only port which supports RGB. I have same problem with copied DVD's in my Sony DVD player, if I don't plug it's scart into socket 1 of my TV it plays in black and white.
Anyway, thanks a million......
mahesh Nov 19, 2002, 03:58 PM I Have the same problem with Toe jam and Earl. I.m gonna try the Enighma video select file but i dont think i have a enighma chip installed. When i swtich on my xbox the X logo is in red. Can i still use the enighma patch?
Punton2001 Nov 19, 2002, 07:12 PM mahesh, not sure mate. I have an Xecuter in my xbox and the Enigmah Video Select Works fine for me. Give it a shot, it'll either work or not work. Can't see it causing any harm to your xbox either way.
djlins Nov 20, 2002, 09:03 AM I reckon my toejam an earl is just shagged, coz when it is swapped, it still comes up with a black screen (No intro or anything)
aaah well, will have to try again I reckon :(
mahesh Nov 20, 2002, 02:20 PM Hey it works!!!
Its a shame that you have to keep putting in the disk each time that you want too switch between pal/ntsc as Time Splitters will ony work on pal. Shame but at least i can play all games now.
