Hi,

I have a Compaq (realy old - always freezes on the net etc). I have a Robotics 56K on it and whenever I re start the computer I need to install the modem again?

Also I have 2 dial up connections on m,y computer - freeserve no ties - and a call back from my company. Whenever I connect through my company - I can surf the net with no problems. When I use freeserve - my computer keeps freezeing for about a minute at a time - about 3 times every 10 mins?

Thanks guys

hi there ok it might be that the modem is not set in the pci slot on the mother board so when u turn on its blanking it out or do u by anychance
have it direct connected to the power socking there might be a surge
happening that can do that no problem
or have u got anything else on the com ports that might be conflicting with
it

make sure the board is slotted in tight or try another slot on the board
as for the pc locking it up it could be to do with the ram of the computer
or video drivers or its time to do a error check of the hard drive
might be worth defrag the hard drive..........
and giving it a good clean up of old files
all so do u have a lot of programs in the start up file that sometimes can
slow down a pc a lot

sorry i dont know much more but i have had this problem like u
but mine was outdated display drivers doh
