I hope someone's seen this one before. I had the enigma mod chip successfully installed in my xbox (did it myself) and had Evolution-X running without a hitch. I soldiered the tsop points, and cut wires 15 & 21 as instructed just before hitting "press Y to flash" from the evox menu. Had the evox bios ver 2.4 in c:\bios. Now - everything seemed to work ok after flashing, and I even was able to reboot into evox after the flash with wires 15 and 21 still cut. So, smiling to myself for a job well done - I removed the mod chip. Now the damn thing won't boot, nothing comes up on the television, and it sputters like 3 times on the HD and then flashes red.
Any ideas on what happened? I realize I'm going to probably have to solder the enigma back in to fix it - but I thought it flashed successfully? Especially after rebooting with wires 15&21 cut?
A couple ideas popped in my head - like maybe the tsop needs to be checked to see if it was bridged properly - but it did show a successful flash after I did that. Hmmm
Any ideas?

Hey,
Look for a bridged connections, I have done this a few times, you either broke a trace, bridged something with soldier or damaged the board in some other way.
Take it back apart and take your time (use a magnifieing glass even?) and look at all the points from the enigmah, make sure non are ****ed up in anyway.
Also make sure there are no other potential shorts any place else on the board. As long as the system rebooted and loaded before you removed the enigmah it has absolutly 100% nothing to do with the TSOP, BIOS or EvoX

Ok - will do. Going down to Radio Shack to buy a magnifying glass. Found 1 small piece of wire kinda hanging around and removed it - going to look for more.
What is a trace and what does it mean to break a trace?
Also - does the bios rely on a battery of some sort? I remember having to set the clock a couple times in the past for no really good reason I could think of other than that an onboard battery might be going bad.

Wife found a magnifying glass - and I don't see any more problems with wires or solder touching anything that it shouldn't - but still having same problems. Only thing I really noticed was points 5 & 7 were completly bare. Should I fill in these points with a bit of solder?

Ok - did some research on broken traces and see what that means. I also tested points 2&3 with a multimeter to see if there was a good connection from the original solder points for the enigma, and traced the lines up to a small "hole" and got a good connection signal. Points 5&7 do not show the same - is it because they are "bare"? I tried to solder a small drop of solder to one of the points but it's just not sticking - seems as though there is no metal to stick to. Am I on the right track and what's the easiest way to repair it?

From what ur saying u may have removed a solder pad ..
Following track to another point along track above and below point 5 and link 2 point together..
Have had a couple of Xboxes in for repair with same problem and have epaired them this way..

Yes - that is exactly what happened. UGH! And now I have 3 pads that are off (yet another one came off).
I can see the points above and below that I need to join, but am having some problems getting the solder to stick to those points - the pads were so much easier. It took me a good 15 trys to get just 1 point soldered - any advice for making these ultra-small points stick? (Have 30 guage wire, and a 15 watt iron with rosin soldering flux with .015 dia silver bearing solder - which is what I used to put the mod chip in the first place with).
BTW - thank you all for helping out here.

Hey,
umm, no all I can say is practice makes perfect you're on the right track though.. Another way to do this is get a razor blade and very carefully scrap the coating of the traces, you should be able to get them nice shinny copper and then use a flux paste and get soldier to stick (should be easy if you get the coating off so the copper is very shinny).
Its a really pain in the ***, and time consuming if you ever do another in the future take your time removing the enigmah. I have pulled the pads up before to and sometimes it ruins the mainboard completly.
Just take your time, cause you can make it worse if you et pissed and careless (I have done that and ruined a board before) good luck!
