thebvr2 Nov 17, 2002, 03:59 PM I have an idea and it may have be discussed or this my not be the right place to post, but help me out. I am new at this but here is my idea. I have a X-ecuter 1.1 with a switch. I was thinking that it would not be a problem, when I play LIVE i just turn off the chip before I boot. But I also have a 120gb harddrive, so if the chip is off the harddisk will not boot. I still have my orginial xbox drive untouched. could I some how have a way to "dual boot" the box. BOOT 1 would be with the chip and 120gb, but no live. BOOT 2 would be chip off and orginal xbox drive and play live (M$ could update that drive all they want)? The next problem is how to make a switch for the harddrve. Maybe I am way off and don't see something but it seams a little cheaper than buying another xbox. Please help me out. Thanks
thebvr2 Nov 17, 2002, 06:09 PM Okay I have done a little research and I cannot find one for sale but a buddy of mine says that he has seen a hard drive switch, called something like a treos????? He says it fits into a computer like a cd drive and when you flip the switch it will not allow it to happen until you reboot. So that you will not damage your system or hard drives. It has a set of power and ide cable inputs and two outputs of each. Has anyone seen something like this?
Also, can someone confirm that a modchip is just needed to boot. If so I was thinking it would be wise to have a momentary switch that you have to hold to boot with the chip, so that you would not forget to turn the chip off when booting to use LIVE.
socrates75 Nov 17, 2002, 06:13 PM Its my understanding that yes the modchip is only needed to bootup the unsighned code and then its done, im getting this info from what i have read on flashing your bios with the enigmah final chip they state that you need to start up the machine and after it had booted up into evoultionx its safe to clip the two wires, therefore making my point legit. ;)
thebvr2 Nov 17, 2002, 06:17 PM great
jjasc Nov 17, 2002, 09:49 PM Good idea, but it doesn't work. people have tried it, and said its does not fix the MC + live problem.
Jaice Nov 17, 2002, 09:49 PM You could run the HD out side of the X-box. But even if the chip is off, there still could be a way it could get detected, and if it is, you banned from online for ever.
thebvr2 Nov 17, 2002, 10:52 PM jjasc I would like to read the post that you are talking about can you please give me the link. Thanks
Jaymus Nov 18, 2002, 03:40 AM They read the EPROM serial # off the XBOX, and MS black list yours, so you'll never play live again.
Is live that fun? Why are people so dying to play on XB live.......... I only play on-line games on PC.
chindavon21 Nov 18, 2002, 07:36 AM Live is Da $#!T
clarence w Nov 18, 2002, 04:15 PM Live and Mechassault ROCKS!!!
Springfield_PD Nov 18, 2002, 08:44 PM Why don't you just lock your 120 gb drive so that the original bios can boot it. I don't know if xbl checks this though. There are tutorials at www.xbox-scene.com.
Spree8nyk8 Nov 18, 2002, 09:44 PM they are not banning serialz there is a checksum in the eeprom which is not allowing you to log on. Most likely this was changed by a live update. We need more info on the eeprom before we can fix this.
