I have just bought a matrix chip. Not really knowing the full capicty of all of these chips, I have a lot of questions after reading some of the threads.

1. Can the matrix play backups,cd-r/w, dvdr, and so forth?
2. Is the only advatage of adding a bigger HD to put your games on there?
3. If I were to purchase a 120 GB HD could I put movies on there?
4. What is the average size of a game/movie?
5. What are some key diffrences between this 'Evo X' and some of the others?

To be totally honest, I'm confused. What is the purpose of this 'Evo X'? It seems like an interface between the user and the box. But not really sure.
Well thanks in advance for any replies!

1. Ofcourse it can play backups! all modchips do!
2. You also get faster loading times & its much easier to pick & choose games from menu then to eject, put in media, blabla..
3. You could put any file you want on it. Xbox can play anything from VCD, SVCD, DivX, asf, mp3, jpg to any game systems such as sega, nintendo systems, Amuga, old coinup etc...
4. differs, games can be anywhere from 300MB to 4.5GB. Movies can be anywhere from 30Mb to 4.5G (movie question was very newbie!! hehe...depends on codes, qaulity, lenght, etc)
5. When you are talking evox, evox is two things. one is the evox bios wich has the main features u need in xbox. and one is evox dashboard which is the "menu system" that u get when u turn on your xbox.

Hold on I do have another question. I have looked over 'how to copy backups to the HD'. Is it the same process for movies and all other file formats?

You can copy 3 ways to the HD:

1 XBCOPY - only games

2 Boxplorer - Apparently the latest version can copy to the F drive the version I have 0.96B doesn,t it only copies to E - I haven't found the new version yet so I can't confirm that.

3 FTP from a pc - copies anything - probably best method.

So if my backups are on DVD I would need a DVD burner to get them on to my PC. Then FTP them over to the box. Well I don't have a burner. And I don't see one in the near furture unless they drop in price. But I do have a CD-RW. So would I have to use SVCD and backups on CD-R

Mmmm

I think you could use the latest version of boxplorer to do it - straight from the Xbox D: to F:

Since everyone is helping, I hope u guys can help me too. I also have few questions.

1.) Beside Matrix chip, is there any other chip that does not require soldering?
2.) I am planning to install the chip, harddrive, and the dvd rom myself. Can someone tell me the order that I have to do? Do I install the chip first, boot it up and make sure it works, then install the evox dashboard, then hardhard, then dvd rom or do I install all of them the same time?
4) Can I install the chip without installing the evox dashboard? Will it play backups without the dashboard?

Thanks in advance

What kind of drive is in the xbox by default? Is it not a dvd rom?

It's either a Thompson or Phillps or Samsun DVD Rom.

1 I don,t think there is any other no solder chip

2 Do the chip first - check it will boot with EvoX bios. Then instal Evox dashboard, you can then change the HDD. I am not sure why you would want to change the DVD Rom.

4 You don't need the dashboard to play games but you do need it to install new HDD and various small appliances

head over to: http://www.xbox-scene.com/ they have lots of info, tutorials

The reason that I want to change the DVD rom because it has problem reading the original games. 3 out of 5 times it says unrecongize disk. Anybody knows how to fix this problem? Thanks

Then your xbox dvd drive is damaged. the thing is that changing dvd ddrive will help you read cd-rs, and give you speed, But it will increase your current problem. No originals will be playable :) Get your xbox fixed using its warranty before you install any chip.
