Hi

I'm getting very short on hard disk space, and i am thinking or getting an external hard disk rather than an internal for convenience. It will be used almost entirely for storing music and movies.

I have decided i may aswell get a 120GB, as its worth paying a bit extra to have the option to use more space if i ever need it, but i am not sure which external hard disks on the market are good and which are bad. It must operate with USB 1.1 and USB 2

I have found an Iomega one which looks quite good, a link to it at Ebuyer is below

Iomega 120GB External HD at Ebuyer (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=35705&PX_Session=b22bcc6d73be3aa98aeadfde6d33c862)

Does anyoen have this and can you comment on it's performance and reliability?

Are there any other similar spec external hard disks, that are good, out at a similar price (i can't spend much more than 200)

Thanks for your help

I borrowed a Lacie external 120Gig USB1.1/2 HD off of someone when I had to edit some DV footage.. It seemed fine and was plenty fast enough to just edit straight off of the drive. Also it had a funky blue light and well built case.

I have however had no experience with the Iomega version, so I can't really comment.

I will say this though. You DON'T want to use it with USB1.1 it takes hours just to transfer a couple of gigs.

been looking into the lacie one cos it does look sweet, just wanna check a few things

buffer size - 2mb - is this good, as i have seen some normal hard disks that have 8mb buffers (i'm not sure what buffer size the iomega one has)

seek time - 10ms - is this good. the iomega one i'm also looking at has a seek time of a bit under 9 ms - is this a big difference?

also celtic_druid, when u borrowed the external HD, this may sound like a stupid question but, is the aluminium case quite strong and robust, or can it be easily dented?

?????

thanks
