blakeas Nov 22, 2002, 06:48 PM I have intel pentium 4 socket 423 motherboard with VIA chipset and audio and a 1.7ghz pentium 4 processor. The problem i am having is my Pioner A04 drive is getting an exclamation mark in windows XP and i reinstall it in XP and it works properly and then when i restart the same thing happens again. I go to the IDE controllers and i get an exclamation point on each Primary IDE and Secondary IDE. What should i do? Thanks in advance! I can also be reached at blakeas@yahoo.com.
Van Nugent Nov 23, 2002, 12:50 PM First off, check BIOS to make sure all IDE channels are set to Auto.
Secondly, download and update VIA 4in1 Drivers v.4.43V (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2).
blakeas Nov 25, 2002, 07:46 AM I installed all the drivers from the above website and am still getting the exclamation point under the device manager for the primary and secondary IDE channel. Anything else i should look into? Thanks!
Van Nugent Nov 25, 2002, 01:15 PM Remove the IDE Controllers from Device Manager then reboot.
blakeas Nov 25, 2002, 05:43 PM i still get this..
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.
Van Nugent Nov 25, 2002, 07:46 PM Try setting the serial and parallel ports to Auto (in the BIOS). The problem is some device(s) on your system don't like sharing resources.
If your mobo BIOS supports I/O APIC, enable it then reinstall WinXP. This will give you as many as 24 IRQ's.
blakeas Nov 26, 2002, 08:11 AM i have the hard drive set to primary master and the DVD-writer set to seconday master. Is that the correct setup? I set the serial ports to auto but it would not let me set the parallel ports to auto. I have a VIA pentium 4 motherboard. What else should i try?

Yep, normally DVD drives like to be the master so your setup should work. Besides the HD & DVD burner, what other drives do you have? Can you also tell the mobo model #?
blakeas Nov 26, 2002, 06:46 PM i cant find my manual - where can i find the model number on the actual mother board? What i have above is the specs for the motherboard. I have a floppy drive and thats it. The DVD burner and floppy drive.

blakeas Dec 04, 2002, 08:57 AM i try to download the drivers (4in1) but the install locks up on my computer. Do i need to un-install something first before i install the 4in1 drivers from via?
Van Nugent Dec 04, 2002, 12:16 PM Don't think so. Try another version.
