Can anyone recommend a good program to backup data, and what's the best program for making mpeg1/mpeg2 dvdr?

The BEST program for backing up data is Drive Image 2002 by Powerquest. Creates an exact image of you drive in it's current state, will write it to CD-R's or another HDD, and has saved my A$$ many, many times.

As for the other, there really is no single program. Read the guides on doom9 or at the top of this forum. Not so easy at first, and lots of people are intimidated, but once you do a couple of DVD's, and get yourself a system down, it's cake.
I use the following programs, in the following order:

Power DVD (menu screenshot)
Smartripper or DVD Decrypter (Rip the Movie)
DVD2AVI (Create d2v for Cinemacraft)
Bitrate Viewer (Get Encoding Parameters for Cinemacraft)
Write a script for AVISynth (to import into Cinemacraft)
Cinemacraft Encoder
Pulldown BatchFE (to convert to NTSC Framerates)
SpruceUp (Author DVD Title Set)
ChapterXtractor (to set chaps in Spruce)
IFOEdit (set aspect ratio for 16:9 movies and Test Movie)
Nero (Burn DVD-R)

Thanks for the help, I've read serveral fact, I just wanted to know what's the best program to burn a mpeg1, it seem nero is the best.

As for aspect ratio, do we need to set it 16:9 or could I set it at 4:3?
also is Drive Image 2002 a freeware?

If it is originally a 4:3 then you don't need to do a thing.

Drive Image is not freeware, under normal circumstances.........
