Oh man, another same topic. I don't understand why so many people asking the same problem. This question had been asked since the day that game cube and Xbox launched.

Probbo because they need help and want advice and didnt think to use the search feature.

maybe they wont make daft posts asking why people like that do what they do though.

nickel, a bit more info for ya, this is similar to the problem that we faced when the dreamcast was released, everyone wanted to copy the games but before we find out how to burn them we have to find out how to read the discs first, as far as i know we cannot get the data from the mini-dvd - then if we want to burn it back we need to know what mode etc. the discs are made in. for example the self-booting dreamcast games must be recorded in 2 sessions, the first a small audio track and the second the data track.

i have heard that the gamecube has the capability to read a full cd but its only the case design that stops the laser from reading beyond that of a mini-dvd, i heard that a japanese company was suppossed to be making some kind of new case that allows for a normal cd to be used

personally i think that the only way we will play backup gamecube games is on something similar to a Doctor64 for the N64, the games will be ripped to a normal cd and we will be able to play them on a backup device which plugs into the game cube - e.g. external cd-rom.
