If I have a DVD burner, is it possible to create dvd's that will play in my unmodded ps2. From what I understand I can copy movies and they will work fine so I can see why I wouldnt be able to take a vcd and put it into a dvd format right?

That's correct mate. You don't have to have your PS2 chipped to play copied DVDs. It's just the PS2 is a bit picky with what DVD-Rs it'll play. I would look into it a bit more and find out what brand to use. I have used bulk paq gen 3 and they work.

You can put a VCD on a DVD-R but I wouldnt bother as it's alot of hassle

Oh yeah, some stand alone DVD playrs cant support VCDs on DVD so more than likely the PS2 cant either. Hope that's helped ya mate

This still does not explain what I am looking for. What I want to do is take a vcd or svcd and convert it into the same format that a regular dvd is in and play it on a ps2. if you can play copied dvd's I cant see why i could nt do this.

If you want to convert a VCD to SVCD format, you should ask in the DVD forum, there is a bunch of info on that. The PS2 is not configured to play VCDs straight like most standalones. It only plays DVD compliant formats.

You CAN convert VCDs to DVD format, but that's another forum.
