My machine has just died. My friend has jap machine (one of the first out) with stepdown etc. He has mod in it but it only plays cdr less than 650mb.

If i bought this machine and had it chipped with a messiah/magic would this solve that problem.

Really need some advice on this one.

Lawsy1, my advice is Go and buy that jap machine from your friend if it is a v0 Jap (means version model 10000-15000 (not 15000 T1)). I got the same machine as ur friend, got a model 10000, v0 Jap with that old modchip. It plays all dvd-r that r out at the moment, all u need to do now is:

Check if it is really a v0 Jap (means version model 10000-15000 (not 15000 T1), and finally working (the modchip and the machine) then:

1) Buy that Jap machine from ur friend with the ulility disc (boot disc).
2) Buy yourself a DOA2 Japanese Original from anywhere, this is needed as a boot disc for booting dvd-r games.
3) Buy Dvd-r ps2 game from Williwonka http://williewonker.hop.to/ , he is the only one who is willing to patch games for a Jap machine, i only get dvd-r game from him and allllll workss.

Once u get everything above, do these:

4) Insert the DOA2 Japanese original to ur ps2.
5) Let it load, the tray will now open automatically.
6) Do swap trick ( sure ur friend will teach u and show u fully )
7) Take out DOA2 and replace it with dvd-r game
8) the tray will close automatically
9) game load instantly.
10) enjoy the latest dvd-r game.

My advice is do get this jap ps2 machine, cos the new machine with latest modchip such as messiah2 will cost u a lot, while u might be able to get low price ps2 from ur friend., so do consider for this jap ps2 as it plays all dvd-r i have to say.

Don't need to wait for any of those modchips if u have one of the v0 Jap ps2 like I do.

I don't know WTF my modchip called, but it is an 8-wires modchip, the first modchip EVER on PS2 on history! :D

The function of the modchip is that whenever u insert an original, it will load and automatically the tray will pop out for about 5 seconds, within that time all u need to do is take the original out and place ur backup in.

It will now load, the game load and u can play! as simple as this!

The most common is that u insert the ulility disc and perform swap trick to the backup, and this loads the game.

For dvd-r, i use DOA2 as a boot disc, and load it up. do the swap trick and place in the backup , it loads perfectly within seconds.

i got backups for GTA vice city, metal gear solid2, FF10, all loads perfectly, with no problem,

i got this modchip since it first came out, it was summer 2000, i got this pre-chippped...

within the time i got myself the neokey/sbox, i installed it myself, so that my ps2 got 2 modchips! :D for some reason it will only boot silvers (factory pressed cd) and does not play cd-r :(

i was annoyed at that time but now i am fine, i am so happy that i can get games on dvd-r that works with this old old modchip!

i got all my ASA patched dvd-r from Williewonka, he patched it for me.

I highly recommend this modchip, this is a must for existing Jap ps2 user, since it play all dvd-r, with a single swap, it is really cheap to get, ( but the thing is i don't know where u can get the modchip from... gotta find it urself)

Neo2.2 does work with jap ps2 only if u manage to get the HEX code on that chip... if not it won't work, u must ask some1 for that code and make the chip for u... sry that's the way it is...

I suggest, may be u should get neokey for the time being... or if u can get the old modchip that i mentioned, do get it, it is now cheap, easy to install (only 8 wires to solder)...

Lawsy1 i have a jap 10000 model which i have chipped with messiah 2 .
I would say buy the jap model and get it chipped with messiah 2 pro.

Mine loads all games cdr,dvdr,dvd etc fine...

Could do a deal on my jap machine ur jap machine and broken ps2 if u like...

I bit the bullet in the end and bought a new version 7. Have had it chipped with a magic chip and seems fine.

Have done a deal to sell my old broke machine as a way of getting some cash back.

im going to get a messiah2 for mine...
haven't gotten it modded yet, i can only play tekken tag, my only original and i can only play team battle ,lol

messiah 2 is the best modchip for jap v0... but it is fu*king expensive, £80 to get it done, so no point :(

what's that in USD?
i know its expensive, but getting another and modding it will be about the same cost, even a premod
ill probably get mine from precisionmods, their's is 165 for install +chip

do you still hav to patch DVD-Rs to play on JAP systems with Messiah 2 Pro?

I might be totally wrong and not know enough about Ps2 modding but why would you need to patch dvd games for a jap machine for?
I've got a Jap ps2 with some chip where i gotta double swap with AR2 and i don't have to patch my games. I live in Aus and i can play games i backup from Aussie Ps2 games.
