i have a pioneer 717 dvd player. how come discs recorded on my panasonic dmr-e30 dvd recorder won't play in it, yet play fine in a pc and a ps2? anyone else encountered this, dvdr usually play no problem in my pioneer.

You remembered to finalize I assume right? Maybe its the media u are using in your E30 that the pioneer can't read?

One thing just came to mind. I heard that the DMR-E30 doesn't create an AUDIO_TS when it finalizes. Most DVD players don't NEED it, but some do. Perhaps that is what is happening to your Pioneer. Supposedly if you have a pc dvd players you can take the disks that you made with your e30 before you finalize them and add the AUDIO_TS folder.

maybe you are right mate on both counts. i finalised the disc ok. with the discs playing fine in pc dvd and ps2, i take it they have recorded ok?

how come i can copy some discs but not others? i can copy any original region 1 disc no problem on the panasonic dmr-e30, but tried 2 pal originals and not a chance, i get the message ''cannot record from this disc''
any ideas?

you need a good quality macro remover, something like the Macmaster lead

Hmmmm . . . is your DMR-E30 multiregional? That might have something to do with it. I'm not sure to be honest.

The AUDIO_TS folder might still be the issue for the Pioneer though. It may need that folder to work properly.

You can't record NTSC & PAL to the same DVD-R/RAM

its just region 2 pal i cannot copy, even on a fresh blank dvdr disc.

rishardc it is the audio ts folder that causes it, i copied a disc, finalized, then ripped to hard drive, added an audio ts folder then burnt to disc, and it plays fine in my pioneer. i would like to add the audio ts folder before i finalize on the panasonic, but i can't as both my pioneer a03 and my dvd rom drive won't recognise the disc recorded on the panasonic until it's actually finalised.

just out of curiosity, are there plenty of dvd players that don't need the audio ts folder in order to play discs?
cheers

Goto the setup menu then connection and find 'input signal TV system' and make sure it's set to PAL

done that mate, i reckon it's a new type of copy protection on discs these days. find it hard to believe though that harry potter region 2 can have this on, but lord of the rings region 1 doesn't?

you need to remove the macro while copying on the E30 when doing region 2. I have a E20 & my brother an E30 so I know for sure. If you dont remove macro you will get the message 'Cannot record to disc blah blah blah'
Have you tried a good quality macro remover?

tattooman,

I would wager to say just as a random guess that 75% don't need them. I think only certain brands will need it. Pioneers and some older panasonics I think will. I haven't tried sony's yet tbut they might since they are *******s like that. In general its probably the players that are going to be picky about things.

can anyone recommend a good macro master lead? the one from Solem.com perhaps, or techtronics?

yes I have one of those and that does the trick, but using my very old macroremover which still works I get the usual message on my E20. Go for the Sonel

Hi Tattooman,

So after getting the Macro Master from Sonel you were able to back up your discs what did not work before?

Thanks
