Does turning the modem on and off renew it?, duffy90210 Dec 05, 2002, 08:35 PM If you have a static IP, like most NTL users, then your IP will change each time your modem are switch on. HTH skankingaround Dec 05, 2002, 10:35 PM ipconfig -release ipconfig -renew you may get the same ip back though :) gooner Dec 06, 2002, 06:06 AM Originally posted by skankingaround ipconfig -release ipconfig -renew you may get the same ip back though :) As per Skanking said but if you do the release command and wait a little while, (give enough time for someone else to log in) and then renew or log back in and it should pick up a different one. nimbles Dec 06, 2002, 08:40 AM yeah you have to use the cmd command first- if you're on xp type cmd in the run bar on the start menu then type "ipconfig/release" your ip adress shoudl then become 0.0.0.0 then typing "ipconfig/renew" should renew it on win98 you have to type winipcfg in the run bar and do it from there i find that switching the modem off and on also does this- i think if it had a rest button then that would also do the trick but my modem doesn't!! Lee2003 Dec 06, 2002, 12:31 PM Thanks guys, My modem dont have a reset button neither, I have to unplug it or remove the power lead, I just like to renew the ip now and again, for security reasons. Then again I leave my modem on for days sometimes. |
