My new improved computer will not ID my old HDD properly

About 6 months ago my brother (Who lives in PERTH 2000K away)
came over an installed XP on my HDD......didn't leave a disk..but I didn't think I needed it , anyway. Now I have upgraded M/board and CPU etc to 1.7 GHZ..When I plug in HDD it tries to start up it but will not run anything just a screen saying something is perhaps wrong and do a scandisk because something has changed in the sytem etc tc...Is there Anyway I can get my old HDD with all my programs and files to run on the new machine

If there is no way to do this...I have XP and can install it on a new 60GB HDD...but can I copy over the info from the Old drive to the new and if so how...I can access the First HDD through the new one by making it the slave..It has XP office etc onit which I want to keep..along with my other files and programs........can I boot up with a floppy and reinstall xp on the old drive????

As you have upgraded your chip and mobo you will more than likely need to reinstall xp. The current configuration doesent match and as its core components its to much for the OS.

Install xp on the new 60 g drive and you will be able to copy or access the files on the other drive if you set it up as your secondary master or slave. You will need to delete the MBR though (master boot record) on the second hd

how do you delete the MBR on the second hard-drive?

Im not sure with you using xp if its using the ntfs file system the way I would do it involves using DOS
But if your xp is on a fat 32 partition get a DOS boot disk and type the command fdisk :d /mbr (d being substitutied if needed for the drive letter of your 2nd hd) That should give you an option to delete it

Thanks guys...I ended up installing XP copying my files over but I lost XP Office so got to go hunt it or similar up now
