Hi there

I'm trying to buy a large (100gig+) hard drive, that I can fit externally to the firewire port of my laptop.

I want to use it for future storage, but also for some video editing.

Unfortunately I don't know enough at the moment to make a suitable selection. Can anyone offer some advice?

What hard drive manufacturer should I go for (or stay away from)?

What specifications do I need to consider in a the hard disk drive, so that it will be suitable for video editing?

Is anyone aware of a good supplier or any bargains?

Does anyone know where I can purchase a Firewire external case that I could fit a newly purchased hard drive to?

Please help!!!

hey

i recently bought an external hard disk for teh same reason as you want one, as storage, in my case for movies etc

someone recommened my the LaCie d2 120 gig hard disk, which comes in either usb2 (which i got) and firewall

i got mine from www.dabs.com, the usb2 version was 210, i think the firewall is a bit more

i haven't had it for long, but so far its been great! nice and fast. its really nicely made also, it has a nice solid aluminium case. the drive used inside is a maxtor. i haven't done any video editing on it - i do taht on my internal drives, however teh guy who recommended it to me had used it for video editing and said it was fast.

also check out www.lacie.com for more info

i've heard the iomega external drives are good to, bu i've had no experience of them
