OK, I have a Seagate Barracuda IV 7,200rpm 80gb hard drive. I also have a Liteon 40x12x48 burner and a Liteon 16x DVD rom drive.

Now, when i copy a 700mb file from cd to my harddrive it takes about 2.5 minutes. When then copy that same file from my harddrive to a different partition of my harddrive it takes about 3 minutes or more.

So does that mean that my harddrive is the bottleneck of my computer. I always thought that a hard drive was faster than a burner or a dvd drive.

Does anybody have any tips or solutions on making my harddrive faster

Hard drive = primary master
Burner = Secondary master
DVD rom = Secondary Slave

I have checked the device manager and i am pretty sure that DMA is enabled on all drives. I am running Windows XP.

For my primary IDE channel:
Transfer mode = DMA if possible
Current transfer mode = Ultra DMA Mode 5

Device 0 and Device 1 on my secondary IDE channel are both:
Transfer mode = DMA if possible
Current transfer mode = Ultra DMA Mode 2

I think it's normal. I mean, you're explaining it as if your other partition is a different hard drive but it's not. It may be a different drive letter, but physically, it's the same drive.

The reason it's slower is because the HD head has to move back and forth to read & write the file. Whereas when you copy from a CD to your hard drive, the HD head doesn't need to move as much, therefore the file copies faster.

From a CD to your HD, it depends on the speed of you CDROM drive, and ofcourse, If the Harddrives are on the same IDE, or SCSI line, they will travel faster.
