Has anyone got a Dolby Pro Logic II receiver and if so what’s it like, I’m considering getting surround sound (5.1) and was wondering if Dolby Pro Logic II is worth the extra cash.

Cheers

Dolby Pro Logic II is very dated. It only uses 2-channels that decodes to a multi speaker setup. Go for Dolby Digital 5.1 or EX , DTS or if you can afford it THX.They all use 5 dedecated channels Baring in mind with THX every componant has to be THX certified eg. DVD player, Speakers, Amp. All comes down to what u want to spend.

Dolby Pro Logic II is excellent when you don't have a true 5.1 digitally encoded source. It's certainly worth the extra money.

Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS are pretty much standard anyways.

Cheers for the responses, I’m going to get a dedicated Dolby Digital & DTS receiver. I was just wondering what Prologic II was like (with a stereo signal, MP3 etc), does it simply send out the stereo signal to front and back speakers (for example rear left mimicking front left..)
