I am not familiar with how to access and manually install and copy stuff onto the XB's HD.

Is there a programme which runs on a linked PC that allows you to watch AVI's, DiVX, VCD etc on the XBox - or do you have to install something on the XBox?

You can run mediaplayer off a DVD-R/CD-RW and stream video etc from your PC.

It's called mediaplayer for xbox. There should be a link somewhere in the ISO folder.

Don't ask where to get it.

It's much simplier to install it on the XBox (mediaplayer) although not necessary. Also you need some type of streamer program on the PC. I use Relax streamer.
