thisiscoo Dec 22, 2002, 10:49 AM Isn't it the faster you cpu speed is, then the hotter it gets right? and it also use more electricity too right?
and i'm not talking about when you overclocked it, i'm just talking about a 1.8Ghz and 2.0Ghz cpu.......
- thx......
smeggin19 Dec 22, 2002, 11:25 AM If you're comparing like for like. i.e a P4 1.8 and a P4 2,0, then yes.
But if they're different makes i.e an AMD 1.8 and a P4 2.0, then not always.
Depends on what the cpus are made of etc.
I suppose you know that an AMD 1.4 is faster than a P4 1.4, the temps are different too.
I think that's about the jist of it!
thisiscoo Dec 22, 2002, 11:28 AM okay, thanks a lot :D....... so it also use more power.........
thisiscoo Dec 22, 2002, 07:32 PM so, is the faster the cpu, then the more power it will use?
ps2wiz Dec 22, 2002, 07:34 PM Yes it will use power the faster the CPU operates.
Spursman Dec 22, 2002, 08:05 PM Be careful dont let it get to hot coz when i did my computer blew up. had to build a new one. no my PSU is working to the max.
ps2wiz Dec 22, 2002, 08:15 PM coz when i did my computer blew up
You don't mean literaly right?
no my PSU is working to the max
?
BigStan Dec 23, 2002, 06:58 AM The PSUs can go physically bang. My graphics card smoked when it died, actual smoke. No joke.
Amd's tend to run hotter than their intel counterparts, but the thoroughbred chips are a different design that run slighlty cooler. Additional power usage would be negligable if you were overclocking. A good power supply is a must, amd recommend 350W plus for a basic system now. I had a quality 300W unit when my gfx card died and think the power supply had something to do with it. Now running a 550W and all is fine.
thisiscoo Dec 23, 2002, 11:40 AM Does it blow the whole inside and outside of the computer up? or is it just the PSU?
Is there any fire and is it very loud when it blew up?
anyways, so the best thing from keeping it from blowing up is to always turn off your pc when not using it?
ps2wiz Dec 23, 2002, 12:15 PM I know that PSU and internal parts can overheat and start to smoke, I've just never seen on litterally blowing up, my PSU once overheated..
Does it blow the whole inside and outside of the computer up? or is it just the PSU?
It matters on what is overheating thisiscoo, if the CPU overheats it fryed, and the same goes to basically every component in the comp.

Is there any fire and is it very loud when it blew up?
There isn't any fire unless you its really really really overheating and its not loud its a fizziling sound.
anyways, so the best thing from keeping it from blowing up is to always turn off your pc when not using it?
Not exactly, you can leave your computer on 24 hours a day, but you should have proper cooling
This thread is turning into a guide on how to keep your comp from catching on fire...
thisiscoo Dec 23, 2002, 12:33 PM okay, thanks all, especially ps2wiz01...............
