Kierre Dec 22, 2002, 03:48 PM I must say that I am very disappointed with Sony's non-existent progress on the hard drive for the PS2 in the US, and sub-par in Japan. Or for that matter, the undergrounds efforts to get a hard drive working with the network adapter. I have a suggestion, and it's your job to tell me how ridiculous this is before I make such a purchase. I would like to purchase the PS2 hard drive from Japan and somehow manipulate it to work with my US, V7, Magic 3 modded PS2. How hard could it be right ;) The interface is IDE and it should only be a matter of using the drive software that comes with the Japanese version to gain access for other things. Let me know what you guys think...
Once we can transfer files to the PS2 hard drive via ethernet, then playing DIVX movies and the sort will not be far behind. I think M$ made their box too easy for a reason.
:furious:
Jaice Dec 22, 2002, 04:23 PM The PS2 harddrive can be bought in the US. It comes with the Linux kit.
For a seperate release, it is set to release on or before Final Fantasy 11.
MattG Dec 22, 2002, 06:35 PM the ps2 hdd isnt standard IDE
Idiotrat Dec 22, 2002, 08:35 PM is the PS2 external HDD/broadband adapter really worth $285 (for the SCPH-1xxxx)?
ive got one and im looking to get one since i can't get a network adapter otherwise (my SCPH-10k one doesn't have the slot or something )
Kierre Dec 23, 2002, 04:48 AM Idiotrat, relatively speaking the external drive costs more than the PS2 itself with the network adapter. Depending on the scope of your usage it may or may not be worth it. If you are using it for what $ony built it for, I'd say no, but if you are using it to eventually be able to do things comparble to the moddified M$ box, I'd say yes it's worth it.
Idiotrat Dec 23, 2002, 12:53 PM kierre, thanks for the advice, i think ill wait off on it till it comes out in the US to see if its worth getting it for like FFXI and stuff.
Jaice Dec 23, 2002, 02:44 PM The Extrenal harddrive cost 199$. It comes with a 40gig harddrive, broadband network adapter, linux, keyboard, and mouse.
Idiotrat Dec 23, 2002, 08:11 PM jaice, where can i get this and does it work with SCPH-10000J consoles?
if so, i might not wait...what's the linux for anyway? (i don't know anything about it, plz explain)
thanks
aykh Dec 24, 2002, 12:34 PM Can I copy ps2 backup games or movies(dvd/divx) to the harddrive then load/play them from the HD. on a Modded PS2?
ps2wiz Dec 24, 2002, 11:33 PM No one has tryed it, therefore no one knows. But the software that comes with it surely doesn't give you that option.

R U SURE only $199?
I guess U meant US. $ right?
So, it's ~ $300 CAN. $.
Network adapter cost ~$50 + keyboard alone cost ~$80 = $130 (CAN. $)
That's not bad of a deal i say but it need someone to write Software/modify the bundled S/W for copying stuff(ie. games/divx M.) to it.
