Yes, if it is a DVD5, or if you reencode the video to make it fit. Look at the guides that are on this forum and all over the net. Unfortunately for you, almost all commercial DVD's are encoded, which means you will have to.............USE A RIPPER!

Hello m8

you can make copys of dvd`s with all the menu`s and extras BUT the vob files have to be under 4.7gb otherwise you will have to re-encode the whole film and make it smaller, a process which takes about 24hrs.

if you follow this link ( which is bst`s own thread ) you will be able to see which dvd films you can back up in full and the ones you cant.

good luck m8

:)

Yep and you don't have to waste 24 hours.

DVDXCOPY does the trick

Keeps everything and splits a DVD9 to 2 DVD-r's

Quality is right on the money.

It is either this program or a lot of reading and trial and error.

Yes, although there are a few dvd's out there the program has problems with. Check out the DXC forums and most are listed somewhere in them. I have only had a problem with the movie Friday, but it does play on my Pioneer 104, I just have to jump a few chapters ahead and back track to watch it from the begining.

Also, the current version is having problems with episode dvd's (Soprano's, Star Trek NG etc.) but has been reported to be getting taken care of in the next update in the next week or 2.

What the program basically does is really just unencode them.

It looks to me like it is another ripping tool.

You have to decide whether you want to spend either $99 or a whole lot of hours compressing the files and reencodeing them.

Freeware works if you have the time, I would rather just spend the 2 hours DVDXCOPY takes. If you have a fast dvd rom drive in your PC, our time will be even less.

You kinda have to make your own decision based on the time you want to spend.

Oh by the way, www.dvddecypter.com is the site

Its Quite Simple Really (This Guide Is For Use CCE)

1. Rip The Whole DVD To Hard Drive Using DVD Decrypter
2. Open Avi2DVD Load In The Main Movie Vobs Goto Audio>Dolby Digital> Demux All Tracks, Then Goto Save Project
3.Use Avisynth (Make A Folder On C: Drive Called dll) And Set Up The .avs As Follows:

For Interlanced DVDs

LoadPlugin("C:\dll\MPEG2DEC.dll")
LoadPlugin("C:\dll\Decomb.dll")
mpeg2source("H:\Example\Moviename.d2v") <Where Your d2v Is Which You Made With DVD2AVI
FieldDeinterlace()
ResampleAudio(44100)

For Standard

LoadPlugin("C:\dll\MPEG2DEC.dll")
mpeg2source("H:\Example\Moviename.d2v") <Where Your d2v Is Which You Made With DVD2AVI
ResampleAudio(44100)

4.Now Have To Open You .avs In CCE And Set The Bitrate Etc

Use
One Pass VBR Q60 Min 1000 Max 6500

Then Change The Setting i.e Prograssesive Frame Etc You Know What To Tick By Using Biterate Viewer And Choosing The Middle Vob Of The Movie. now All Set Press Encode

5.Now We Will Use ChapterXtractor Open Our .ifo For Out Main Movie vob Set And Extract The Chapters And Choose To Save As A .chp To be Opened In DVD Meastro.

6.Open Meastro, Import Your .m2v And .ac3. Put Your .m2v And .ac3 On The Time Like Right Click The Chapter Line And Import Your Chapter Point Made With ChapterXtroctor, Put Chapter 00.00.00 In First Play And Author Your New Main Movie.

7.Delete You Old Main Movie Vobs Rename Your Newly Made Ones And Put The New Ones In The Directory Where the Old Ones Were. EXCEPT vts_xx_0.vob

8.Open Ifo Update Put Your Original Ifo For ThatVob Set In Original Vob, Your Newly Authored One In The 'Authored Ifo' Box And Select A Place For Your Backup And Press Ifo Update Once Thats Done Press Correct VST Sectors

9.Check Place Back With Power DVD Adn It Works And Fits On A DVDR Burn With Your Fav Burning Program If its Still Too Big Encode Some Of The Extras Following The Same Process

You Should Now Have A Full Backup (Except Subs) :)

How long would it take for the whole process, I might look into trying it just so I can compare it for myself.

You gave a very detailed step by step list there also.

I'll have to try it and see.

I just like DVDXCOPY's ease of use. Only downside of it is the cost.

24 hours????? I don't think I have ever re-encoded a DVD and it took any longer then 8 with rempeg2.

The other downside to DVDXCOPY is 2 dvd's. I can't stress enough how I would hate to switch between disks. I might as well be buying VCD's.

I like having good quality movies so multiple discs are not that big a deal here. Plus if you have a multidisc player, it's not that big a deal. I don't mind spending about 30 seconds to switch discs, to keep the quality level up.

You have to decide,

1. Go the freeware route and take longer to make the disc, and maybe keep it on one disc without special features so you don't have to get up to knock the popcorn off your lap.

or

2. Get DXC, do a full movie with everything still intact in about 2 hours
Spend about 30 seconds to clean up, go to the bathroom, switch disc etc.

It really is all personal preference.

I am going to try the freeware route here soon just so I can judge my self.

If it takes longer than 2 hours, than it really isn't worth my time in my opinion.

I think a lot of people praise DVDxCopy when they try the freeware guides and can not get them to come out right....

DVDXCOPY is only for NTSC dvds though so us with PAL dvds have to use the Freeware, but quality is usually very high, and with the right problems a 3 hour film can take as little and 90mins to re-encode.

DVDXCOPY is only for NTSC dvds

From DVDxCopy FAQ:
Q. Does DVD X COPY support both NTSC and PAL DVD movies?

A. Yes! NTSC and PAL DVDs are both supported.

Must have been an update, last time I looked at the Faq it said that only NTSC was supported.
