Most of the posts I see on here relate to backing up dvd's, which is fine. I have a lot of movies on divx, and I want to convert them to dvd format. Will programs like CCE support this kind of operation? So far, I have used tmpgenc to try and convert the divx format to mpeg2. I was wondering if anyone has any helpful suggestions to facilitate the process (make it quicker!!)

If it is an DivX AVI then CCE can convert it just fine. OGM and MP4 I am not sure, mp4 should be possible with the right directshow filters and AVISynth.

Remember DivX is just a codec not a format, so just mentioning that it is DivX is not enough, you need to specify the actual format.

Also doom9 just wrote a nice new AVI to DVD guide, you might want to check it out.

Hmm ok thanks,

They are all avi, I have tried to encode a couple using CCE and largely following doom9's tweaking guides, but I get the same error when i hit encode; which is : "cannot find a suitable div3 codec"

I have the divx 5.0.2. bundle installed (surely that includes the div3?) and I recently put on the 3ivx codec. I don't think what I'm trying to achieve should be that difficult, but it seems CCE doesnt like it (I'm using the trial version) I just want to get to a stage where I have dvd compliant streams so I can get authoring !

thanks for any input

ps - thanks for the guide link! - I'm busily throwing six different software packages together now to give it a go :D

pps (some time later) - I am now confused - One of the progs used to determine audio stream (Gspot) also tells me I don't have the div3 or the div4 codec (low-motion and fast-motion) this has not stopped me from viewing the movie with (presumably) the divx 5 bundle. I clearly need these other codecs to do any meaningful editing, So what codec do I now have to install? - the divx3.11 alpha? the divx4.12 ? Also, will this conflict/overwrite the existing divx5 codec  Sorry to be windy :o

DIV3 is the fourCC for DivX 3 low motion, DIV4 is for fast motion, both are part of the DivX311alpha package, along with the DivX audio codec.

Being nothing more than hacked Microsoft codecs, they are of course not packaged with 4.xx or 5.xx.
