I have been looking into this fade protection for many weeks now using two different systems with interesting results. It seems that ALL CDr ripped versions of games will show effects of fade whetever load method is used. DVDr 1:1 copies also show signs of fade if used with a swap trick, But DVDr 1:1 copies when booted with messiah don't show the effects of fade. So it is not such a clever protection after all. It looks like the game checks something to do with a matching TOC on the original. Now if you are using a swap method to boot your game, it obviously doesn't match up with the original TOC, therefore fade kicks in. If using messiah or simular, no swap, then the toc is the same! Any CDr rip doesn't have the same toc, so will fade.

The following results were gained with CDR and 1:1 versions of DVDr of LMA manager 2002, World Champ Snooker and Mike Tysons Boxing, all having the same results.

eg:

PS2 Version 3 with Neo 2.2

CDR rip will single swap using AR2 = FADE kicks in
DVDR 1:1 with double swap using AR2 = FADE kicks in

PS2 Version 4 with Messiah

CDR rip (No Swap) = FADE kicks in
DVDR 1:1 (No Swap) = Game plays perfectly.

Fade causes in the following

LMA manager = After a few games it becomes impossible to select players or simular and then lose every game until eventually it locks up altogether

Mike Tyson = Game locks up after first fight

World Champ Snooker

Balls float off table after first couple of games.

I can verify that I have played all three games on my version 4 messiah chipped ps2 with 1:1 DVDr copies and all three work fine. Just stay away from swap methods and CDr versions of these games.

Whadaya think guys? Anyone else have anything to add?

Not such a clever protection after all me thinks.....

FADE is old old old, its been able to be beat with clone cd (on cd based pc games) for ages now, same method applies, copy the bad sectors fade is defeated.

FADE is old on PC, I agree but it has different characteristics on PS2 ie, we are talking DVD here, Clone CD is for CD based stuff only. I have been on the elby website and apparently Clone DVD will be available soon, so hopefully that will be able to cope with FADE on PS2. But it don't matter if you have a messiah chipped PS2, fade doesn't kick in.

I thought the Messiah chip just tells the PS2 its an original DVD or CD, PSX or PS2, not the TOC.

i would suspect its cuz ppl with messiah modded ps2's do not have patched games etc etc and jsut do 1-1 dvd copies with prassi and it copies the bad sectors just like clone DVD will.

so, to play games with fade protection like Mike Tyson or so....

all you need to do is use clonedvd to make an image of the dvd-rom disk so it will bypass the fade protection (becuz you're using clonecd to read the disk)

then use isobuster to extract the image out to data and start to rip the games, then make it into a dvd-rip games.....

then boot up that dvd-rip games and play with the swap method.... lol :D

would it works?

I don't know how sure those results are......
I use the Swap Magic discs to boot DVDR games, and I have NEVER had a problem with Fade on Mike Tyson, or Sly Cooper, which many say has Fade too. I have been able to play both of those games for long periods of time and not one problem.
I do NOT have a chip in my PS2.
