fatboyfsx Dec 28, 2002, 10:44 PM whats up, I just got my PS2 back with the MAGIC 3 installed. Plays games great except for a few. It plays the ORIGINAL JAP GRAN TURISMO 3 fine, plays psx games fine (original and backup). But then it only plays about half of the cd-r backups I have. Haven't tried all of them yet, but it doesn't play "The Thing" "SHOX (PAL)" "ROAD TRIP" and a few others that I can't remember. All the games are on "PNY Media" CD-Rs. I don't get whats up with it, I have yet to try DVD-R. Thanks for any help guys, later!!!!!

thisiscoo Dec 28, 2002, 10:56 PM Magic 3 is the number one modchips that always have problem with booting cdr backups...... i guess it's a matter of fact that it is uncompatible with some of the ps2 version....... but i know that dvd-r booting is fine with it........ anyways, i heard that ps2 version 7 user never have such a problem with it, and many people said that if you use verbatim cd-r, then the booting result will turn out being better.........
fatboyfsx Dec 30, 2002, 02:09 PM Got some new info....
Turns out I have a version 5 ps2 now thanks to the modchip installer, anyway, here is the list of CD-R games that DO NOT work:
Automodellista (JAP)
Cart Fury Championship Racing
Contra: Shatterd Soldier (BETA)
Dave Mirra 2:Freestyle BMX
Madden 2002
Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2
Rally Championship (PAL)
ROAD TRIP (JAP)
SHOX: Rally Reinvented (PAL)
Test Drive Offroad: Wide Open
The Thing
Twisted Metal Black: Online
World Rally Championship
These are all CD-R, some are rips, some are not. The media is random, most are PNY Technologies. For reference, some of the games that DO WORK are on crappy generic (bulk) media. Later!!!!!
Rice Dec 30, 2002, 05:42 PM i have a magic 3 in a v5 ps2. ALL my games, except about 20 which i bought off here, are on memorex media. The others are no-name cheapo cdrs. NONE of the no name cdr media boots, but ALL of my memorex burnt games do. Just a point to ponder, next time you stock up on cdrs , mabye pay an extra 5$ and get cdrs that will work because they are decent quality.
richcheckmate Dec 31, 2002, 05:32 AM Am I the luckiest installer on planet earth with the magic 3??? All my CDr work. I have got a lot of crapy ones from the shop "aldi" in th euk and they work great. I have verbs - no problem. I can see what everyone is goin on about - they all work.
cyclopse7 Dec 31, 2002, 09:48 AM i might have a little insight into this problem. i just got a v7 ps2 premodded with the magic 3 chip. i have about 100+ cdr games. when i tried them out, only about 50 of them worked. at first, i thought it was the media, as most of the ones that didn't work were on fujifilm and most that did work were on verbatim. however, there were the odd few that were verbatim that didn't work.
i went back and reburnt atv offroad fury 2 as my test case. i have 2 computers, one is a dell and the other a hewlett-packard. well, i burnt the game on my dell at lowest speed on verbatim cdr. nothing changed. games still didn't work. then, i took the same bin/cue file and burnt it on my hp comp. lo and behold, the game worked perfectly.
so then i took one of the cdr's that didn't work (a fujifilm) and did a disk to disk copy of it on my hp. it worked also. i also burnt a game on a fujifilm using my hp and it worked.
what i discovered was, for some reason i cannot fathom, my ps2 does not like games burned off my dell. i use the exact same settings and get the same results. without fail, none of the games i made on my dell work. but if i take the game burnt on my dell and copy it on my hp, it works. so now i just burn all my ps2 games on my hp. i don't know if this is a problem exclusive to the magic 3 chip or just my particular ps2, but maybe this will help some of u that are having problems.
fatboyfsx Dec 31, 2002, 04:24 PM first, thanks for the responses
I just brought all the games that didnt work over to my friends house, he has a Ver.4 PS2 with magic 3 inside, and they al didnt work, so no change from V5 to V4 systems. Cyclopse - what type of burners are on each of your computers? Maybe the burner itself is to blame. This sucks, but not really cause all the games that DO work are the main ones I play. Later fatboy
fatboyfsx Dec 31, 2002, 04:41 PM Just a thought - I wonder if magic 3.1 could fix these problems? Or if Messiah 2 would? Does Messiah 2 have the same solder points as magic 3, if it does it would be easy to switch em.
thisiscoo Dec 31, 2002, 04:44 PM yeah, i heard that magic 3.1 doesn't have this problem...... but i know that messiah 2 is even better.... anyways, no, messiah 2 has different solder points then magic 3........
