excuse me for sounding so newbieish but i dont even hav an xbox lol

anyway my friend has his xboz, it was 2nd hand so i doubt theres any warranty, but anyway the other day, what sounds like the dvd drive startde playin up...now when u turn it on it jus makes an awful noise like theres a disc in it then it quietens down and still makes a noise...then the 'ur xbox needs servicing' comes up

dont play anythin...im guessin it must be the drive, thats wut it sounds like

anyway how much is a replacement drive if it is that? cus he sed i can buy it off him cheap if i want...so id like 2 get it fixed

also where do u get a screwdriver that opens the screws on it?

The replacement for the internal DVD drive is the Pioneer 500M, there is a tutorial on XBox-scene on how to do it.

It's easiest just to hookup any PC DVD rom as the Slave to the XBox DVD rom. But you will NOT be able to play Originals on the Slave.

Read the tutorial carefully, I am uncertain if you require an original in the original XBox DVD to play games off the Slave or not.
