I just noticed last night that the premod I purchased back in Sept. was actually just a a preflashed Xbox. I was checking to see if the chip that I was supposed to have was socketed so that I could just order a new chip with a newer bios and put in its place or if I would need to get a Matrix or Xecuter2.

But since I don't have a chip in there I'm thinking I might aswell flash it to a newer bios since the jumpers are still connected. I have a Hynix chip rather than an ST or a Hyundai chip, does anyone know if this chip is flashable with this method?

Also I read that I would need 1MB bios files for the onboard flashing. The D6 bios that I have is only 256k is there a way to enlarge this to 1mb?

How much you paid for your xbox chipping? cos i think they might conned you..

Yes the chip is flashable(via evo-x dashbard) and you DO need a 1mb bios. To turn 256kb to 1mb you need a program called 'make1mb' (dos).

Oh they definetly conned me since I paid for a chip and install but it was so long ago that I'm not that pissed about it now.

I'm running winXP, is there a way to turn a 256k bios into a 1mb bios with it?

go to start then run.
cmd.
then you get a dos box.
go to the directory where the bios is at.
type.
copy /b 256bios.bin+256bios.bin+256bios.bin+256bios.bin newname1024bios.bin.
then you have a 1024.bin bios 256bios should be replaced for the name oyur bios is called and newname1024bios.bin should be called what ever you want.

U cant just flash the chip... u have 2 install an enigmah or extender chip 2 do this.

The most important thing is that u need an original bios, which u dont have anymore, for xbox live. Get an xecuter2 which can hold multiple bios'es. Then u can have an original bios & say d6 on there aswell.

hth.

No. I can just flash the chip since the jumpers are still bridged and getting onto live isn't important at all to me.

Thanks for the info sphere man, I'll give it a try in a bit.

what is the name of your xbe file ?
as the d6 bios searches for either Evoxdash.xbe or Xboxdash.xbe that i know of,i had the same prob.
Once i renamed the new dash to Evoxdash.xbe & the original to Xboxdash.xbe it all worked fine.

Also i thought that the new evox with the D6 bios ,will resize the bios appropriately.

Everything is working fine, there's no problem other than I want to update my bios. I too have heard that the new evox will resize the d6 bios but I have also read that for some people it failed to resize it resulting in a bad TSOP flash, which is what I want to avoid most of all.
