Girth Jan 01, 2003, 05:16 AM Hi all.
My brother has just had a dvd writer installed into his PC.
He now has a dvd player + a writer in the same machine.
Is it possible to simply copy an xbox dvd directly from the player to the writer?
The xbox is chipped already so there's no problems there.
If so, anyone tell what s/w etc to use?
Thanks.
Intermission Jan 01, 2003, 05:28 AM I prefer to make an image 1st as most would agree that on-the-fly writing isn't the most reliable.
I have found i can use any software to do this as long as it supports a DVD writer but i mainly use prassi primo dvd.
A bit of advice though.
For games that will be larger than 4gig you will need your hd to use the ntfs file system as fat32 will not allow files of over 4gig. But if anyone knows how to stop that happening then please let us know :)
Hope that helps
Girth Jan 01, 2003, 08:27 AM thanks for the advice intermission.
So I should make an image. He's got WinXP so I'll have to check about the 4gb sixe thing.
Are there lots of xbox dvd's that are bigger than 4gig???
Intermission Jan 01, 2003, 09:10 AM I dont have many dvd games as i am just starting with a dvd writer but i dont think there are.
Would be a different story with ps2 as i saw a site with the TOC sizes and there were loads over 4gig.
BTW i dont have any over 4 gig yet.
With win xp you can change the file system to ntfs without having to format (so i have been told).
spielburg Jan 01, 2003, 12:29 PM yes don,t worry about it m8 just do the straight copy from the reader to the writer thats the way im doing them no probs so far . besides to make the image got to wire your x-box to your pc and transfer the files that way
can,t be bothered with that ****
also m8 fat 32 will read files above 4 gig as long as youve got the psx engine update in prassi it will then split them for you
Girth Jan 01, 2003, 02:06 PM Cheers Speilburg. So a a straight copy works ok for you??? Wicked!
I'm gonna try this. Rent an xbox game, then just do it.
I'll do a searech for Prassi.
Thanks for the advice all.
Intermission Jan 01, 2003, 08:22 PM No dont do a straight copy from an original in your pc as it will only see 3 files (I think) straight copies will work from copies not originals.
You will have to rip the original to copy it.
spielburg Jan 01, 2003, 08:58 PM yes thats right m8 should have made myself more clear straight copy from a backup
Brandogg Jan 01, 2003, 09:03 PM I would say it's a bad idea. You're bound to end up with a couple coasters unless you have a really fast PC and don't do anything at all while it's copying. You should always make an image first.
spielburg Jan 01, 2003, 09:05 PM make an image lmfao
Girth Jan 02, 2003, 03:26 AM Ah. Ok then. So I make an image of the original dvd. Then burn it.
Pretty much as I would a cdr yeah?
Only problem is - I can't find this s/w you're on about - prassi primo dvd??
Is there a d/l of it available anywhere???
Baturkin17 Jan 02, 2003, 04:13 AM you can NOT do a 1-1 copy from an ORIGINAL. all you wil get is a small vob file. put an original in a dvd player and youll see.
if you want to copy a BACKUP then make a image and then bun it, dont do a 1-1 copy as it might not work.
Girth Jan 02, 2003, 07:17 AM Can I just confirm (cos I'm a bit dim).
I CAN put an xbox dvd into the dvdwriter. Burn an image from it onto my HDD. Then burn that image onto a dvdr???
Someone was telling me that you have to link the box to your PC, copy the files across using special a/w, then copy the image, then burn it.... SOunds well complicated!
Thanks all!
derekmartin666 Jan 02, 2003, 07:50 AM ok mate ill try and help but im just newbie to this as well,,ok here goes.
1 .you cant copy an origanal xbox game just usuing a pc.
2. you can copy a xbox copy just using a pc. If you are going to copy a'copy' then you must make an image to the hard drive then copy the image back to the blank dvd.
3. if you want to m ake a copy of an origanal game you have, then you need to connect the xbox to the pc, run the origanal game from the xbox to the pc, then copy that way.
the pc cant read an origanal xbox game(well, it reads only some bits)
hope that helps, if you are going to connect the pc to xbox, you will need a network card and cable, then you will need software for doing everything. Its not that hard but if you need any help or need the software ,geeze a shout .
derek
Girth Jan 02, 2003, 12:23 PM Thanks chap. I think I get it now.
So I can kss goodbye to backing up my own dvd's then. :0)
Thanks everyone for your help..
Alexoi Jan 02, 2003, 06:55 PM Correct me if I am wrong. If I want to copy the original xbox game. First I have to put the disc into xbox, then use flashfxp to ftp to the xbox, copy the whole content from the dvd disc to the pc harddrive. Use xiso to create an image from the xbox game in the pc harddrive and finally burn the image back to the dvd blank. Will the copy be identical to the original?
Baturkin17 Jan 02, 2003, 08:02 PM im afraid youll just have to figure it out yourself, there are plenty of tutotrials that tell you exactly what to do and you just dont seem to get it.
k9plus1 Jan 02, 2003, 09:59 PM hmm .. so how would you copy an original x-box game?
aatk Jan 03, 2003, 02:33 AM Let get this straight once and for all...
Ok, No you can not copy an Xbox DVD-9 directly, your PC only reads 1 portion not in XFS (xbox file system).
Therefore to make a copy you need is an Ethernet card (which if you have PC that runs a DVD-RW it probably has one or cable/DSL?). Then just go Download FlashFXP and Evolution X dashboard and install the evolution X dashboard, connect your Xbox to your home network or directly using a crossover cable (an Xbox link cable works). Connect to your Xbox via FTP (FLASHFXP) and FTP all the game files to your PC then make an XISO out the file with GDFimage (which you can DL) and burn the ISO with Primo (AKA RecordNow Max)
It’s very easy and if you check www.xbox-scene.com you'll see all the tutorials to do this. It will take you 1/2 hour max to learn how to do it, after that all you have to do is rent or barrow a game and copy it.
If you do copy DVDs to DVD-R directly don't f**k around with images, its a waste of time, just look at the disc if it’s scratch free just do a 1:1 without making an image first, they're a waste of time. I have burned at least 500 DVDs directly and only made 1 coaster ever, thus no need for the extra 10-15 minutes it can take to make an image of a full DVD.
That’s my opinion. It works great for me and 1000’s of others
