my laptop only runs when it's hooked up to the wall.
The battery i beleive is dead but it might not be because in device manager, under system devices should be a battery slot device and all that other hardware devices that are related to battery power.

I'm using xp.

What could be wrong here?
PS - I really think the battery is dead because the laptop doesn't even work in DOS. But i know i'm suppose to have some hardware showing in the device manager. So there will be no use buying another battery unless i know it will work for sure...

thanks

I currently have the battery for my laptop removed as it's quite heavy to drag along when I'm away. In Win 98SE in Device Manager, the only thing that is listed is ACPI(Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) Battery with the generic driver listed. There are no other instances of the battery in Device Manager. I would guess that it is just a faulty battery. Their life is only about two years.

have u taken it out for a few seconds then replaced it a few time, as when mylaptop takes a bit of a bang, or just a little one it wont recharge it, and so i can only run off main, so just take it out and then replace it and it should work, if this doesnt work it probably will be a faulty battery
