Dear Darkman ,:)

In reference to my post earlier about finding out the web addresses of the local area , just to clarify things up , im trying to do a website guide to all the local business around my area , that was the reason why i ask earlier , as not to be misunderstood for the wrong reason , as i have already collected quite a few info , it would be a pain in the butt to actually ring up the thousands odd places where i havent manage to find the URL of thier websites , i was just hoping that the knowledgable few in here that might be able to shed any light on this , but if you do however find it to be a breach of any web law/rulz or whatever by your standard , plz feel free to delete this post

There's a big difference between looking for URLs and looking for IP addresses.
IP addresses are usually hidden from the casual net user, when a 'surfer' types in a URL their ISPs DNS (Domain Name Server) looks up the IP address and loads the page. So the URLs in your local area will have little to do with the IP addresses in your local area. A web page can be hosted anywhere on the planet and it will make little difference to the person viewing it (other than perhaps a slightly larger lag time).

So even if you were to find the IP addresses for ISPs & web hosters in your area that wouldn't help you find companies opperating in your area that have web pages.

Start with your local 'Yellow Pages' as many companies list their web addresses.

thx 4 replying

i just thought that as many people/business who register thier domain names would need to submit thier details , and that in some way some1 may know how to approach the correct people in the correct way to gain these details , i know its a a bit far fetched as some1 pointed out they would never give you details of these data , i ve tried a few searchs over the net and none of them have been really helpful , and also yellow pages the info is bog standrad unless the business or company pays X-amount to advertise themselves with a big ad in order to fit thier domain name , :( oh well , guess its either spending weeks calling them up or send out thousands of letters ..
