I just built my son the following
Athalon XP1900+(came with recommended fan and heat sink)
256MB DDR memory
Gigabyte motherboard(on board sound)
Nvidia 400mx 64MB Graphics card
52 speed CD ROM
Floppy
The case was one of those flashy ones with a window in the side and an extra fan that flashes.

£320 inc delivery.
I had to put it together myself but that ain't hard.
Remember this is only a very basic machine, but it does everything the boy wants including playing some of the latest games.
To play all of them well you would just need a better graphics card
