i have atholon 1700 xp
ecs motherboard
512 ddr ram
2 x liteon 24 speed writers masters both on single channels connected to the motherboard ide .
hard drive ibm 30 gig conected as master and a liteon 163 dvd reader conected as master to promise ultra 100 x2 (on seperate CABLES)
all works fine can burn at full speed to both writers at the same time .
now i got a 105 pioneer for xmas i have tried adding it as slave on the promise it will only write at 2 speed if i put it on the promise as master on its own it only writes at 2 speed.THE ONLY WAY I CAN GET IT TO WRITE AT 4 SPEED IS TO TAKE OF ONE OF MY 24 SPEED WRITERS AND ATTACHED IT TO THE MOTHERBOARD IDE . im thinking of buying a new ide pci card but which one ,it seems this one is not fast enough .any help thanks in advance

writing speeds with the pie 105 is dependant on the media your using and also the software your using.there isnt a lot of media out at the moment which writes at 4 speed.datasafes new media will write at 4 speed but not with nero which will only let me burn at 2 speed.vob is strange,it sometimes burns at 4 speed but then sometimes only lets me burn at 2 speed.i think this is a problem with the media.prassi and record now max will burn at 4 speed as long as the media allows it.

Im having a few probs with My Promise 100 x2
do you say youve got both burners (cdrw)on master?
ive only got a dvd163 liteon 24x cdrw and a 104 and obviously the HDD
and cant get the ide controller to work properly
with it connected it slows the system right down if i plug anything into the ide connectors on the controller the comp wont boot
sorry cant help you with your probs (but sounds like a media problem like Steve has mentioned)

any ideas on this M8
oh! the controller is new
cheers
