It requires an NT based OS, ME like 98 is based on good ol' DOS and not NT, so no it will not work.
You don't have to install XP, win2k would also work fine.

They have a working version available for beta testing, I know, I know, beta __________ (insert your own comment).
But this software is very good for XP and 2000.
Check out the forum at www.dvdxcopy.com for more info.
Here is the post for what you need to do to be a beta tester.

Only bad thing is that it is limited to the first 50, but you may still have a shot, never know till ya try.
Once, I tried XP Pro, I will never go back to anything with a BSOD. We all know what that is.
Version 1.4 will have be compatible with 98/ME, and it should be out this week or next.
When formatting under XP you have your choice to format with FATS32 or NTFS, but why even bother with FATS32 if you have a choice??

I wish I had a PS2 to try it on.
Are you burning while in dvdxcopy or with another program?? Before you click to burn in dvdxcopy you can copy the files out of the dvdxcopy temp folder to a different folder and the burn those with whatever program you want. Just go into My Computer and find the Temp folder and then move them somewhere else and burn those.
If you haven't tried that, give it a whirl. I don't burn with dvdxcopy because it currently only lets you burn at 1x. With RecordNow Max, I burn at 2x.
Could be your standalone also, but since you say the dvd's you backup yourself (I assume you mean rip and reencode) work in it, that shouldn't be the problem
Like I said, try moving the files before you click on burn disc in dvdxcopy.
Let me know if this helps or if you have any probs.
