Downloaded Road to Perdition, want to convert it to dvd comliant mpeg. However, when I go to TMPGEnc, it says the outputted file will be like 10gb.

Is there anyway to fit this movie onto 1 dvdr.

It's 116mins long and in XVID format.

Thanks

Actually, been looking at TMPGEnc, I think i might know why it says the film will be 10gb. On the Movie info screen in TMPGEnc, it is reading the movie as 333 mins long? when it clearly isnt?

Why is it telling me the film is 333mins long?

I know that TMPGEnc has some issues with the XviD VFW decoder, however I have never heard of that problem.

what format is the original film in, if its divx you will need to strip the audio with virtual dub and then create the mpeg 2 compliant mpeg, if you dont rip the audio first it can misinform you of the file size!

what format is the original film in
and in XVID format

I would have to say though, that neither XviD or DivX are formats, they are just video codecs.

Download the bitrate calculator, it has a setting for XVID and tells you the bitrate you will need to put into TMPGEnc to get the file size to fit on 1 dvdr.

Should make no difference what the input is, if you set it on a bitrate of 3000 then that is what you should get irrespective of what the input is compresed with, unless the input is so compressible that the 3000 bitrate can not be reached in which case your file would be undersized... which wouldn't matter anyway.

If bitrate calculator has a setting for XviD, then it would be for XviD encoding, although that wouldn't make much sense... I guess for 1 pass it would. 2 Pass XviD a filesize is entered not bitrate.

Very true, I dont know why I wrote that, just ment that the bitrate calculator can give you the correct bitrate to fit 116mins on 1 dvdr.

Ok, this is what I did:

I converted the XVID into a VCD compliant mpeg. This was in the hope that TMPGEnc would the read the film as the correct lengh - which it did! (117mins).

Now, another problem has arose. I go through the process of making the DVD - all is good (dvdr size etc), then I come to the starting the encoding process. Instantly I get this meassage:

Write error occured at 77F536F7 of module 'ntdll.dll' with 00000000

What is the problem now?

Thanks for all your help.

Still having this problem. Tried extracting Audio separately but end up with an 'invalid point'error when merged with the video in TMPGEnc, resulting in the audio being majorly out of sync.

Is there any other program that wil allow me to convert this movie to DVD spec?

Thanks

I'm getting the same sort of problems, I just can't seem to get this Xvid converted to dvd. I use TMPGEnc to convert to mpeg: bitrate 3000, 352 X 288 pixels, 25 fps, stream type: mpeg 1 video, rate control mode: constant bitrate (CBR). Also after changing some setting in Options > environmental setting > VFAPI-plugging, change the priority of the the 6 setting in there so the Xvid movie will load in TMPGEnc. So after that conversion is completed I then load it in Ulead dvd so I can add my menu's and music. I use the TMPGEnc first as i've got a 900MHz and with the setting stated above it slashes the time it would normally take me to just use Ulead. Anyhow when I try to created the disc in Ulead it get to 99% then says "unable the convert video".

P.S: Could someone explain what the difference is between DIVX & XVID in quality?, as I can load divx in TMPGEnc and Ulead fine but this bloody Xvid aarhhhhhh.........

I got this exact same problem last night making an XviD into SVCD. You will need to goto select range in TMPGEnc and skip out the first one second of your movie. Sometimes you can skip out just 2frames.
