I need some assistance please, my son has been playing dvd'rs for several months now by using the "knife trick" he has just booted the swap magic dvd disk and when he moved the white peg across he heard a funny noise and switched off the PS2 now it wont read dvd disks originals or copies.

It will however read and play cd's quite happily.
I need some assistance to get this working again.

The laser may have died but is was reading fine before.
Anyone got any idea's??

How easy is it to replace the lazer eye unit?
One site shows how to remove parts from your existing unit to put on the new one but how do you remove it in the first place?
It just says remove laser unit, with no description of how to do it.

Unless you are familiar with doing it I suggest you pay someone to do it, you might have to get a new laser also but might be just the laser is out of alignment and can be fixed but if you continue doing the knife trick it may happen again, better idea to just get a chip so no risk of it happening again.
