my friends ps2 has never been chipped and has never used backups. but when it plays a disc, usually when its loading, it makes a lot of noise. this happens to both dvd and cd based games? anybody know whats causeing this noise and or how to fix it?

Sounds like your lazer is goin'. That noise might be coming from the lazer re-reading the disk.

Sometimes dust gets in the spindle and onto the track that the laser slides up and down on, get some compressed air and give it a good spraying, then clean the the laser with a laser cleaning disk(with brushes).
