Hey I have cash in hand..( About $400.00 for a new DVD burner) I had gotten a TDK INDI 4x but took it back after repeated problems and lousy Tech support! So any ideas on what I should buy? I like the sound of the
Sony Dual DVD+RW/-RW EIDE DVD/ CDRW but my brother has been hawking the virtues of the pioneer A104. I want to burn DivX mostly and back some data up. What should I buy? Any help is greatly appreciated!

well i think you should listen to your brother. he obviously knows more than you about dvd recording. it seems as if he has done his research and knows that the pioneer a-104 is the best drive for the money. you can buy that drive for about $250 and use the extra $150 to buy him something cool since he helped you pick out a drive.
also, this question has been asked a million times before, try using the search function.

I sold my 104,and bought the Sony 500a.It was a very good move! However the Sony is higher priced.I would look for the newer Pioneer 105,it is the same price as the 104.My 103 and 104 both had some major problems! The 104 was better than the 103,and I hope the 105 is better than the 104.I would not trade my Sony for 2 Pioneer 103s or 104s!

I would highly reccomend getting a cendyne 105 drive (Pioneer 105) since it is the exact same drive as the pioneer but since it has the cendyne label it is a fair bit cheaper. In the United States office max had a special going on this drive and after tax and rebates I ended up picking up this drive for $180. It is a 4x dvd-r/-rw format drive. The dvd-r is considered to be the most compatible with dvd players. True the sony drive will do all of this but you have to consider if it is really worth paying almost double to have a drive that does the + format when so far it's advantages are unclear. I have heard people claim that the + format fits more on a disc but I have found this to be untrue. The - format media is also cheaper since the technology has had more time to develop.
Hope this helps Thanks!!!!
