hi
i have a compaq presario (series 5bw120 .)
windows 98 s.e.
celeron 600mhz
196 ram
dvd rom
liteon cd-rewriter 32x12x40
15GB hardrive
i do not have much idea about upgrading so i hope someone can point me in right direction.

i would like to upgrade to incorporate following

80 gig hard drive
512 ram
pioneer a04/ao5 dvd rewriter
windows xp
dvd rom (old one dying)
not sure what processor/motherboard etc i would need.

just wondered how much this little lot would put me back,or do i buy a new system

That would be a fairly standard upgrade, and much cheaper than a new system.
You have a wide choice of Mobo/cpus to choose from. My preference (I have built several machines to this spec), would be Soltek 75DRV5, AMD 1800X processor, and 512 megs DDRRam. Very quick, and stable.
The cost is dpendent on where you live.
