Floppy disks are getting seriously outdated by now, mostly because of thier poor storing capacities.
Since i want to carry around data to several computers on which i cannot write to cd, i need something else. :D

I figured that since every pc has some USB ports, a "thumbdrive", "memory stick" or whatever else they are called, seem to be a very interesting option.

2 questions are burning on my lips....

1) are they any good at all?
2) how do they appear once plugged in? Is it to be treated like a normal drive, like C, D, E? I'm using a network that has ALL letters, from A to Z in use. Will i get in trouble when i use a thumbdrive because it wants to be recognized as (for example) "X:" ???

Thanx,

Merlin.

1. I have one and it has proved very easy to use and useful
2. it appears as a g: drive on my system. Which is the next available drive letter. I suspect it will need to be allocated a letter. maybe you could 'disconnect' one of the drives temporarily ( and I don't mean physically! ).

Do you guys know where's the best place to get one and how much would a 256mb drive cost?

Get a Nomad Muvo - it's a 128mb mp3 player and thumb drive in one. What's great about it is it does everything a thumb drive does, and if you put mp3 on it, it will pay it. Just plug it in, and it acts like another hard-drive. Drag and drop file into the hdd and remove.

Check scan.co.uk in the today only section, they often have them on special offer (changes daily)

ive had one for about 2 years and i think its great apart from the driver probs in win98 as if your on a network you could have probs installing it becauses of the security on that network

like at school i could install it but at collage i have real probs sometimes as the have better software

so if you do want it for col/uni/work check that it will install on their system

i got one and i think it is great! it makes life soooo much easier! only bad thing is the possibility of leaving it in the back of a pc at college or sumthin lol

im lucky cus at home i have xp and at college we have 2000 so i havent even needed the drivers :)

Bought one yesterday.... plugged it in and it worked perfectly (and i'm completely amazed by it's speed...). Network is not giving any trouble eighter, it just picks the first available drive letter. Since i do not have access to all drives, no trouble at al.

I love it...! My advice: get yourself one quick!
