HI there, I can burn audio but when i try to burn data ( directx 8.1) from a file it says ready to write to cdr so i do and it wont even fire up the cd rom then it says cd disk may be ruined so i try another from a diferent manufacture and i get the same thing. thats with windows XP and a creative cdrw 8.4.32x i tried using the nero burn wizard and it wont write either. any help would be gladdly recieved thanx. tony i can play and burn audio but no data at all. i am fairly geeky so if you need to get technical thats ok. :round:

The creative 8432 has a bad reputation for doing nasty things like this.
We can try the standard fixes although burning audio but not data is a really wierd one.
Check the ASPI layer, you can get CheckASPI from Cyrus Troy's download page (http://www.cyrus.troy.btinternet.co.uk), if it reports your aspi as corrupt get ForceASPI from the same page.
If the burner as seen a lot of action it may be geting dirty. Here's a tutorial on cleaning & repairing hardware faults on burners:

Hey there, thanx for the reply. I didnt have an aspi problem but upon further research i found that the data i was trying to burn did in fact burn but xp would not recognize that there was any thing on the disc.... UNTIL i upgraded my nero software to above 5.0 then WAMM! it recognized the data that had previously been burned. what was xp thinking. well prob solved. this is a great site and i will continue to come here for future probs thanx darkman.
