I presume it is just a program in the dvd drive that prevents playback of cdr? If so cant someone just hack it! I mean, it is a drive after all, so surely it can play cdr? Or has it been adjusted so it only plays dvdrs?
Sorry to sound dumb, but this idea just came to me?

i have V1 box and it plays some CDR but really shitly.
Bout into your EVOX and put your CDR in it should say no disk. I then go to load media player from the HD. Then do the ingame reset with the CDR still in.
Now when the EVOX dash boots it says UNKNOWN disk. Loads up media player again and the CDR is working.
Very strage.

Yeah - it's just the crappy quality of the Thomson drives in the v1's.
The v1.1's have either Samsung or Phillips DVD drives in them and they read even crappy unbranded cd-r :D :D

If you got quite a new xbox you'll get a Samsung drive. These are the best, they will play a lot of CDr quite well, otherwise your not going to get much luck.
