Gave my mother an old pc last Autumn with a supra express 56i internal modem. Manually installed freeserve settings as disc wouldn't load (amdk2-350/win98se/ie5.5) but kept getting an error when sending email although it receives ok.
Just updated her pc with another now running intel cpu/winXP and guess what! same error again when sending mail.

The message is ...

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop3.freeserve.com', Server: 'smtp.freeserve.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port:25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

The only two things common to the fault are the modem which has the newest drivers for xp and the manual setup of freeserve (never had a problem manually installing when I was on freeserve).

Hope someone can give me some pointers,
Thanks,

nal

The address should be pop.freeserve.com, not pop3 as shown. Maybe that's it ?

Almost 99.9% sure it is pop.freeserve.com, I think that's how the error reports itself going by searches I've done.

According to web site might have to include 1470 for withheld numbers as it may cause problems sending mail.
Will try this in the morning.

Double click or right click on the little computers next to the time, usually bottom right of your screen.

Misunderstood
When on win98 if you close the web page a box pops up and asks if you want to stay online or disconnect ... does xp do the same thing?
Ma's a newbie to computers and is on payg and doesn't want to run up a huge phone bill and I'm on b/band so can't help much.

Ok sorry, try this it might work. Tools, internet options, connections, settings, properties, dialing. I think there is a tick box for that in there. HTH.
Steeve.

Don;t know if this helps but it should be pop.freeserve.net not pop.freeserve.com
