Hi all,

Recently got 10 DVDr's from a reputable supplier on here 8 play fine 2 freeze (1 near the end and 1 in chapter 3). Any attempt to move to a chapter after the freeze causes the disk to not play at all if done from the scene selection or lockup if using next scene buttons.

Last batch of films I got from elsewhere only 3 out of 8 worked with the same locking up problems (in this case though all at the very end of the film or in one case at the end of the second film as it was a multi).

So to date I've tried all the discs on my modded Dansai 1010. my chipped PS/2 and today the multimedia suite at work. All 3 players lockup at the same point in all films and none will play anything past the freeze up point. So I guess that rules out the player?

Media was different for the 2 batches so I guess its not media?

Other DVD's in each of the batches worked fine so I guess its not a burner/burn method method issue either?

All my older stuff works just fine :)

Has anyone else got to the bottom of this?

It's usually down to bad media.

The problem is that lots of people go for the cheapest disc they can buy and to put it bluntly, they are crap. There seems to be two main types of disc on the market, they have the manufacturer ID TDK or Ritek. I contacted TDK to ask if they actually did make the TDK discs and they said no, they are fake. Ritek are (in my opinion) better quality but they are still not perfect.

It seems to be very hit & miss, you could buy two packs of discs at the same time, one pack will work great and the others will fail.

Another thing to consider is the player, I've had discs that just won't play in my Alba but work fine in my girlfriends Naiko.

There are so many things that can cause a disc to fail I don't think there is a definitive answer.

one thing i have noticed is that if i turn my computer on and then burn about 5 - 6 dvdrs sometimes the 5th or 6th disc locks up and freezes in mine and other peoples dvd players
so now i just burn 2 - 3 discs max and then restart my comp
might not be a solution but it seems to be doing the trick at the mo
