Hi,

The fan on my GEForce2 MX 64Mb should be spinning all the time right? Its not spinning at the moment, when the computer is on, and doing 3-D stuff. So I don't want to use it and fry my card, but I also don't want to try and get it working, only to find out that it is behaving normally already. Please advise.

Thanks

Well, even if the card had a temperature sensor on it controlling the fan, it should never really stop. And considering you say your using the 3D aspects of the card then there is no way it should have stopped.

I can't totally suggest whats wrong other than a dead fan, but it should definatly be moving!

hi bad idea for sure i would get it changed as the fan should be running most of the time to keep it cool
have a look at the card to see if the fan is just sticking and needs a little bit of oil
other then that i would not use it with out the fan moving round

Even if the fan is busted my geforce 2 mx ran fine without even a heatsink so you should be fine to use it without the fan.

DIABLO, Given the fact that most manufacturers are trying to make things for as cheap as possible, they would not put the fan or heatsink on for no reason.

I had a look last night and the fan is not spnning freely, I have to push it hard with my finger to get it to turn. If I just ignore it and it frys, it won't affect any other parts of my system right? GEForce 2s are pretty cheap so I thought I might as well run it into the ground and then upgrade..

Creative can't have thought that my Ge-Force 2 MX required a heatsink or fan. And i even overclocked without a heatsink and it did and still does work fine but i did put a passive heatsink on later so i could overclock higher.

You might get random unexplained system lockups, blue screen and freezing if the video card get's too hot.

When I start getting sick of all that I'll shell out for a new video card then. I don't have much money atm so I'm not prepared to spend money until the thing starts smoldering at the bottom of my PC case. Thanks for your help
