I have a windows2000 desktop machine where most of the control panel icons do not work.

When double clicked nothing happens. If I browse out to the .cpl files and double click them they all work fine.

I have searched google and am tempted to think that it is a problem with the shelliconcache file - but need to be sure before deleting the file in the manner suggested on google. (Its a customers/company PC - not mine).

Any suggestions ?

Cheers !

Answering myself here but.........it looks like TweakUI might help to restore the associations but theres one thing Im struggling to understand:

If I cannot guarantee that the control panel shortcut icons will work then is there any way I can launch TweakUI other than via the control panel (clicking directly on the .cpl file just gives the option to install the utility into the control panel.....not much use if Im going to have problems with my control panel icons !!!
