'scuse the noob-ness, but something that's always bugged me -

What is the difference between the discs that are "CD-R"s and the discs that are "CD-R music"s? Is there any difference at all?

^Meaning that those standalone CD-R recorders will only work with "Music CD-R's". The extra cost does go to the RIAA.

Computer CD burners can make audio cd's from any CD-R media. Buying "Music CD-R's" for a computer based CD burner is just burning your own money. :)

Standalone players are designed to seek a certain ATIP (Advance Time In Pre-grove) when the record mode is selected. The music CDs are equipped with this ATIP. The absence of this ATIP will result in the recorders non-compliance with the record command. As previous mentioned, this ensures royalties to the music companies.

the above is the correct way of saying:

The bottom line is, they try to stick you any way they can.

Thieves beware :D]
