Bills Jan 21, 2003, 05:37 PM I see alot of cd burners out there that have the same speeds. one is incredibly expensive ones alot cheaper. whats the point of this? if they burn at the same speed, and have similar features then why is one more then the other? cheaper ones dont burn as good?

Ghost_of_Garcia Jan 22, 2003, 02:33 AM Usually you get what you pay for.*Usually* Such is not concrete in the world of technology however. "Research before you purchase", is what the bearded man on the hill prescribes. You can get a really fast piece of $hit at a nominal cost. But, is that what you want? I didn't think so. You probably want a solid machine that does exactly want you want and exactly what you paid for it to do. Makes sense?

Sometimes the cheep CDRW are the same drive as the big $$$ one's
they are just rebadged as the cheep drives

Ghost_of_Garcia Jan 27, 2003, 10:29 PM Does Plextor provide support/warranty for the drives that they produce for other brands? I guess that would be something to consider as well...
Smiffy280361 Jan 28, 2003, 04:05 AM Good point, I know when I worked for Acer (BenQ) we used Philips drives but support was only provided by Acer/BenQ...
Perhaps each manufacturer has a different policy but seeing that the profit margin must be so small I would think that the onus would be on the company selling the product not those that actually manufacture it.

MrBean2002 Jan 31, 2003, 04:56 PM Only the badge make of the drive supplies the warranty, not the manufacturer of the components

SICKNOTE Feb 15, 2003, 08:00 AM i got a sony 48x24x48x not a cheap make but only £50 in pc world!
celtic_druid Feb 15, 2003, 02:52 PM Sony's these days I believe are just rebadged Lite-On's.
The same goes for everything in life though, clothes, cars, etc. sometimes you just pay more for a label/badge when in the case of the clothes the cheap knock off was probably made in the same Chinese factory as the original.
zachariah Feb 16, 2003, 09:31 PM Lite-On are probably the cheapest buener you can buy yet still offer extremely good quality
kizmet Feb 19, 2003, 10:10 AM i got my OEM Lite-On for 20$ Cheaper is cool.
